After the rash of KDP causulties it quickly became a top priority to do this project. Another TDR member and I combined forces and did them both today. Both trucks are 97s mine had not moved and the other one was out 1/8" and couldnt be driven back in. We tabbed them and reassembled with no trouble. Both trucks had the bolt that the tab goes under were not loose but wernt as tight as they should be, maybe 5-10 lbs torque. A hint for those who may try it, the crank seal installs from inside the cover but can be done from outside. We read the shop manual after the fact DUH. Cummins instructions in seal kit show it going in from outside shop manual from inside, either works.

Thanks,

Looks like I will be heading to the valley tomarrow to pay a visit with Brandon and do mine, as well as few other rigs. Helpfull hints ?

John,

You forgot to mention the couple of bolts on the bottom that were loose, and also talk about your 2 minute fan removal procedure.

I see you finally hit your 1000th post.

Gary

The way we removed the fan is to use an air chisel with a blunt tip and give a quick rap on the edge of the big center nut to break it loose and then spin it by hand till it comes off and then it will come out the bottom real easy. If you dont have a air chisel a hammer and chisel will do the same thing just remember its a left hand thread and comes off backwards.

We killed five KDP in four hours in the Valley yesterday at Brandon's place, went real easy. Brandon had the narrow fan wrench and they spun right off all five and came out through the top after the alternator was moved.

Matt,

The job is really easy, John really thought this out and made easy to perform. I think the only thing you need that's not in the kit is air and a regulator. I would think you guy's over there would have a KDP Party at Massdiesels some saturday. You can pull the directions off of fritz tech page.

Scott

I was actualy thinking of doing the KDP with the tab... seeing as there are so many people out there with loose KDP's and loose bolts... it wouldn't hurt to check both and break two rocks with one bird. :p

I dunno about a KDP party at Massdiesel's place... . there are too many darn ISB's in our local chapter..... I'm one of only a few 12-valvers around here... unless someone else chimes in and says otherwise.
