Hey all,

With my injectors currently tested to pop at 3350 psi do you all think I should pay the $$ to get them shimmed up? The shop doesn't really think its necessary. I got another quote from a guy that will shim very well for $125 but he is out of town. Based on my past Mercedes experience, my original injectors with 278Kmi worked no better or worse than brand new injectors. So, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just put the current injectors back in the motor. But this is not a Mercedes.

Also, My smallest torque wrench goes to 50 Nm (35 ft lbs) and the bigger one is 50-250 ft lbs. I dont' have one that does 44 ft-lbs. Is there a problem torquing the injectors up to 50 ft lbs?? I should probably buy another torque wrench... but...

Thanks,

The MOST accurate torque is performed by a wrench that is mid-range.

I seldom torque anything other than the very most criticle fasteners.

This don't help you none does it..... :)

I think you sort of asked a question, so I'll answer.

My original injectors were working fine at about 115 K miles. But the new ones worked so much better. Much smoother thru out the entire rpm range.

Plus I upgraded in power. I still get the same mileage.

I also did NOT use a torque wrench installing the new injectors.

I simply made them "gutentite"

did you guys also use the original copper heat shields/nozzle plates???

i checked with 3-4 diesel shops in town and none of them have the thick ones.

the one shop that turned up the bump said they wouldn't bother replacing them... the old ones should be fine.

i agree with "those" :-laf guys. i've had my injectors out a time or two, and have never used a torque wrench to put them back in. no problems yet. as far as popping, they're within spec right? run em. i'd be impressed if you (or anybody else) noticed a difference.

Hey that's another question... . :-laf

I used new ones but mine were the top hat adapters cause I have the old style (cylinder) head.

But yes you should use new washers... . they are a commonitem. Should be easy to get.

You don't want the "thick" ones, you want the thin ones. These place the tips further down into the cylinders and into the bowls at the top of the piston. Supposed to help control smoke a little.
