Everyone go out and check your throttle bar caps!

Mine were really loose, and so I went and got some of the updated metal ones.

I was experiencing 3 problems:

•Bad vibration in the go pedal

•More than normal "clunk" when I let off

•Sluggish throttle responce.

All were solved by replacing the caps and tightening the throttle bar.

And here is the real catcher, I'm now making 2 more psi! And that is out of an hx-35/40 so you may gain more!

So go run out and check!

What's a throttle bar cap? Got pictures? Could I find it in the D/C repair manual? Would pictures be in one of the VE pump threads? Got part numbers? Do I ask a lot of questions?????

Patrick.

Oh, that bar... I replaced that one already, and the caps are those suckers that pop-in. I adjusted the linkage just right... Thanks for the quick pictures, Patrick.

CB,

Not only do they get loose, they will crack along the threads if the plastic ones are still installed. There was a TSB to fix these, the new ones are metal. If the plastic ones fail, there goes the throttle control. There is a kit that has new balls, new metal caps, and a new throttle cable available from Dodge but it cost me about $22. The dealer said he could sell me the kit cheaper than just new ball ends. If you got metal caps for $7, you got a really good dealer there!:)

Paccool, Ditto on the TSB for the linkage piece.

I went to the TSB location on our web site but couldn't find it.

And, once you have the correct TSB #, how do you pull up the TSB explanation??

Yep, if anyone could tell me the part number for the TSB kit or the TSB number I would be grateful. The wife picked up want my local dealer said were the correct parts but they didn't have a clue. They sent me a rod about a foot long and very large, maybe from a newer model truck?

I found a part number for the throttle caps and rod for our trucks today. I ordered one for mine that will be here in the morning. It is 5011955A. It cost me 21. 00 and some odd cents. The one for the TSB I found was for the 94 model. I found one end of mine cracked when I checked it today.

My endcaps are fine; ones on Mom's finally let go two years ago when I R&Red her pump. I just took some baling wire, twisted it into a decorative twist, and wrapped it around the ball on each end, in place of the throttle linkage rod. Has worked so far. Had a 93 one time that I ended up using some zip ties in a figure 8 to hold it all down. Still going, as far as I know.

OK - Finally got home and was able to find the part number for the repair kit the dealer got for me.

CANZ9700 Cable Package

Was around $22, can't find the reciept.

Now, having given the number, I need to say that I have not installed the cable. I don't know for sure it is the correct one for a first gen. The ball ends worked fine, just haven't done the cable as mine is fine (or so I think! :) ). I'll try to get a look tonight if it isn't raining.

The truck is in the drive way with a car trailer hooked up with my son's 57 chevy on it. Spent all day yesterday going and getting it as the son and wife are moving to Washington State in a couple of weeks. Left yesterday morning at 5:30 Am and got back last night at 9PM. Thats why I didn't get this posted over the weekend.

Thanks for the part number. One of my caps popped off the ball during my trip in November and I had to wire it up to stay on, the plastic had worn out. When I went to the local Dodge dealer they showed me the big long piece from a different year. I went back last week with the part number and ordered it, got it yesterday and got it on today. It was $24. 32. The rod in the kit was a little shorter than the original one so I just put the metal caps on the old one and put a dab of white lithium grease on the balls and snapped it on.
