I just read on the 911 forum where a couple of members recommended using about 1/2 qt. of 2 stroke oil per tankful to help lub the pump.





I use about 4oz. of Howes or Power Service year-round for this reason.



Is 2 stroke oil better, worse, a good substitute?

Personally I prefer to run an additive rated for diesel fuel, but I don't think a small amount of 2 stroke is a problem as long as it is ashless. I wonder how much lubricity it really does add?



If I were looking to add extra lubricity I would just add some Biodiesel to my fuel or run B5 vs. running a two stroke oil. Bio is proven to increase the lubricity of the fuel a great deal.

I guess this another of my broken record replies.

Adding certain 2-stroke oils or trany fluids for lubricating the pump or cleaning the injectors mostly originated from people trying to justify a red tint in their fuel when it should be clear... .



For those that don't know trany fluid is very bad to add to the fuel. It leaves a lot of deposits on the injectors. 2-stroke is meant to be burned and doesn't cause the deposits.



I agree with Cooker on using regular additives or running B5 & up bio-diesel as better choices.
 
Use a diesel fuel rated product for this if you must.



Hmmm a 40:1 ratio would be 4 oz. of oil to 1 gal of gas (gary's chainsaw). Plus you need agitation to promote proper mixing.



My calculator isn't handy, but 16 oz in 34 gallons of fuel is a pretty small amount to be a lubricity additive. Some of the injector cleaners, diesel additives etc. . are likely about the same ratio, but seem to have additives that make a difference (ie injector cleaner).

I use about 8 oz of synthetic ashless 2-stroke oil per 30 gallons or so diesel fuel - first, mixing with diesel fuel shouldn't require the same mixing ratio as it would with gasoline, and also don't figure I need as much since I am combining that with a similar amount of PS additive...
 
Maybe I'm missing something, but why does the P7100 need lubrication-enhancing additives when it's mostly lubed by engine oil? It's not like the VE or VP44 which are solely lubed by fuel.

Lubricity = longer life. I add 2 cycle oil at 200:1 at every fillup in my 12V and 24V. Someone here posted a link to a Bosch seminar where they talked about the necessity of lubricity in the fuel and de-sulphering process was lowering the lubricity. 2 cycle oil is ashless, cheap and intended to be burned in the cumbustion process.
