Yep you heard it right, that my new tally on injection pumps this year :( I posted the codes set after my truck died on Friday night in the 911 fourm, thanks to thoes who responded. Anyhow the truck is loaded on the GN for another trip to EEP. This time for another new VP and a clutch and input shaft:D On the downside the pump wire was tapped because of the UFM box, although I will do it to the new one because of the dramatic difference it made power wise. Hope three is my lucky number, I cant afford another one! P. S. codes 0252 and 0370 = bad vp

Darn the bad luck! I've got 78,000 on mine and when I bought the truck with 24,000 the lift pump was dead and I have no idea for how long. The VE on my first gen went about 120,000 before a rebuild, so if I get that outta this one I'll be somewhat happy. Hope you have good luck with this one, maybe you could shake some chicken bones at it or bring it to church and have it blessed.

Just curious what the symptoms were before pump failure?

Vroooooommm ... . vroooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm *Squeak!* ... . Coasting... ... . coasting ... . Tic tic tic (Hazards) Cranking=Nada

No warning for *Most* Just up anddied in his case. Cycle the key to check codes and a 216 may show and the truck runs fine but the end is near. Some have low power (lucky guys) some have a miss (Bad ) at idle ... Too Many to list that also mimic a fuel filter or a lift pump.

TMTT was right on about the hazards and the no start, but mine let go with no warning, quit under moderate acceleration on 5x5 nothing like its used to :D Thanks Joe D. for the tip, I plan a good break in before gettin in er too hard. Hopefully it helps. The first pump died a slow and painful death, missing every now and then and a few months later you couldnt go a mile before it would cough and shake. This one really took me by suprise. It was running real strong right up to its death. Maybe I should buy a few VPs for backup and have them in the toolbox!!! Thanks again for the help and suggestions. Truck will be done tomorrow. Ill give a report on how I like the new clutch.

Because mine failed with the Edge comp wire hooked up, I did not, and will not, hook up the wire on my new one. I have too many bills to afford another just to knock 1/2 second off of 0-60! Besides, the other morning, I raced a lowered 2 wheel drive Powerstroke with a big exhaust and beat him twice with just the 1x5 setting. Plus, I love the milage I'm getting. (Avg 18. 1 city/hwy)

Just picked mine up at the dealer today. New VP-44 under warantee. 78000 miles. symtoms: 0216 code. really hard to start warm for awhile. got hard to start period. erratic idle. sometimes it lope like a 'Jimmy" hunting for idle. when it would first start it would stall once when I let out the clutch. You could hear the timing change after it started.

I drove it to the dealer, shut it down, they couldn't start it until the next day. That pretty much convinced them it needed a pump.

Mitchell clutch and VP installed!!!!

Well, shes all better now. I opted for a reman VP this time to save a little $$$. I got it through EEP and they also installed it and the clutch and put a TST grabber on the pump wire instead of my scotch lock. I drove it a while on 2x and then the last few days have been all 5x5, so far so good. I do plan on stocking up on VP's :D I plan on getting a race VP from Piers here in a week or two, then at least I have one available. Now the clutch. Wow what a unit it is. A huge improvement over the stocker that I was killing. No complaints on streetablilty, drivetrain harmonics, or the intermediate plate "rattle". There is a noticable noise, when the clutch is disengaged, but not enough to complain about, sounds like a diesel rattle to me. Streetablity is great, I did have to relearn to drive it on the way home at stoplights and such, because it wont slip when fully engaged. Now I dont even think about it. Shifting speed dropped slightly, but Im improving there too with time. My dad had doubts about it when I told him I was having it installed. After he drove it he changed his mind, the pedal pressure is more, but it didnt even bother him at 50 years old, he was bangin the gears in no time. If anyone has any questions about the clutch Ill be more than happy to answer them, either by pm or on the fourm if I didnt cover them here. I just tried to cover all the rumored problems with having a DD competition clutch.

What exactly fails on these VP pumps?? is it the solenoid at the back of the pump... or is it in the controller on the pump??? (I am guessing its the solenoid)

You guys are scaring me... I have had a miss from time to time for the past 50,000 miles. . but she keeps on ticking a long... only run the UFM on 5x5 when needed...

Could you advise me on a website or contact information for the most affordable company to buy a new VP off of, so I can file that away, mine is getting quite a few miles on it, and hope that it will keep ticking for a long time, but you never know.
