Political threads - A WARNING

Did a favor- then my truck got wreaked

I've bought a couple of two way radios, and when I read the owners manual for them it said I needed a radio license from the FCC before using the radio. Anyone have any idea how much this will cost? Is it a one-time payment, or does it have to be redone every year? The radios are motorola "Talkabout" that operate at 1 watt. I looked around the FCC web site but I think I have to register with them before they tell me how much I owe for a license. Anyone have any input?

For the ones we use at work if I recall it was like 25 bucks for a ten year license. That was for all the radios using that frequency so all 15 of them were a total of 25 not 25 x 15.

towpro that must be right they changed the license rules in the last couple years. Here at work deal with licenses out the ying yang for all sorts of stuff must have confused the amount with a different license. Used to be you had to license them more often but the new change increased the span to 10 years so 75 may very well be right but I do remember that was for all the radios on that frequency we owned not each.

Towpro, thanks for the link. I tried to look it up last night, but the FCC website is almost as confusing as the IRS web site! I did find out that the license is $75. 00 for 5 years. All the application processes and payments can be done over the web site, so that should speed-up the process.
