Going on a 2500 mile , 2 week round-trip from here in Salt Lake City to Sweetwater Tx for the Rattlesnake roundup. My mom does a craft that is clay snakes and she is selling there... . on the way back, stop in El Paso tx to see and old family friend then back home. First real long trip for the trailer I have.

So see you all in 2 weeks, let you know what rattlesnake steaks taste like... . (chicken??) lol

See ya!

Just Got Back!!!

Boy what a trip! Went to La Mesa Tx to visit a cousin then to Sweetwater Tx for the rattlesnake roundup. Averaged 9 Mpg the whole trip... If I didn't have hills, I had headwinds. One time I averaged 10 on a leg and 8 was my lowest. (300 miles of headwind... . )

In Sweetwater, There is an abundance of Western Diamondback snakes in that area so this is like a harvest. They slaughter all of them so they make a fair event and there is teams that compete on how much weight in snakes they bring in. There are also vendors selling crafts and snake products, I bought a belt and a mounted snake (posed real snake)

This is the arena where it was held... vendor booths and such...

Handlers were in the pits with all the snakes... Used heavy boots and a rod tool to move the snakes.

Every snake was milked for the venom for making ani-venom syrum.

This guy is a handler and he does a demonstration show and safety awareness thing. he figured out all by himself that if the snake was unable to see ... (head tucked under belly,) then you can push the snake off a table and on his hand... :--) Snakes thinks he is still on the floor and senses no movement.....

This Guy is CRAZY!!

Oh yeah, forgot to tell you... ... Yes, Tastes like Chicken... . exactly!... No other funny flavor or anything... . but it is bonier than a catfish. has a hard cartilage on the back and fine ribs down the side. you have to like scrape off the edges then using a fork, dig out the meat from between the ribs then eat what you get from that.....

I've had rattlesnack before, I sure would hate to have to survive off of them you'd have to catch a bunch to make much of a meal and its a pain to dig out little bits of meat.

PS If you decide you liked it so much you want to cook some up at home, make sure you look for bite marks in the skin. If they think they arent going to make it they bite themselves to poison the meat. Boyscouts was worth something huh?;)

I am with Ken on this one. Keep the snakes. Now those two Miller Light gals are a different story... ... ... ... ... Ouch, I was only looking Honey; honest. Oo.

I think I'll stick to the Tiajuana Cockroach Roundup - not as big, don't taste as good - but LOTS safer... ;) :p

And all THEY have are a couple of L. A. bag ladies for "entertainment"...
