I now have 4000 miles on the new 2006 and love it. I am even learning to live without some of the add-ons I have on the 1998. 5 (US Gear OD not available for G56, spare tire located auxiliary fuel tank no longer available from Transfer Flow). Unfortunately, I really miss the 2W-low switch from BD which they say is not available for the 2006 because of the complexity of the electronic shifting to 4WD. Has any genius out there figured out a way to defeat the front axle lock in while still shifting into 4LO??

You can back your trailer in 4 Low. Nothing will get damaged at parking speeds. I've done it for years. It's not the same as driving on the highway in 4 wheel drive. Even on the highway you would only get a little tire scrub unless your tires were different sizes.

No, leave them locked until you know you won't need it. On my last truck, they were locked from September through May...

I've thought about converting mine, but I engage my 4wd every day to get up our road.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been using 4L when I am backing on gravel or dirt, but really don't like the jerking when turning into a tight area. But hubs just for backing an RV would be a little overkill.
