Help with Decision

I did a search but could not find the info I was looking for. I assume the 3rd Gen 4 x 4 trucks still use the center disconnect front axle?? Can someone point me to info on 2 wheel low conversion? Mainly concerned with the '05 dually.

You assumed wrong. The 3rd. G's do not use the same disconnect. Everythings in the front turns all the time and drives when the transfer case is shifted into 4WD. There was some chatter sometime back about a kit but I have not seen anything about it lately. Maybe some one will update us on a kit. If there is a kit I think it would be expensive as a lot of modification would be needed. I am getting along just fine with my 3rd. G, but I sure miss the 2 lo I had in my 94

I'm begining to wonder if I'm making the right decision. Between an untested 6 speed and flywheel, a possible frame issue with hauling my lance camper, and now no 2 wheel low..... maybe I should just keep my '99 that has been proven a strong dependable ride..... But then theres the 4 wheel disc brakes, all most as much power stock as I'm making now bombed, the 6 speed with reverse in the right place, that new truck smile... . I'm not giving up yet.

You should be very careful trying 2wd low range. The torque is multiplied many times and you are sending it all to the rear axle only. Very easy to break something if your not careful.

Absolutely right but when you need to back a trailer up a steep drive way it sure comes in handy! When I do this it's at idle only. Just let her walk with no need to ride the clutch.

RickE, Thanks to setting me straight as it sure didn't seem reasonalble to me But what do I know.

Thanks again
