Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 20% biodiesel mix at the pump?

I filled up the other day and half way though refueling I looked on the pump and it said that the fuel contained 20% bio diesel. Has anyone else seen this? My exhaust also smells a little different. Just curious. Thanks

I go out of my way to find stations selling biodiesel. 20% should be fine in your '02 although Cummins says 5% is the max. I ran 20% biodiesel for several years until the station closed. Now the best we can get is 10%.

My only concern with bio is cold temps. I'm going to straight D#2 now as winter temps are going into the single digits. bio will gel quicker than D#2.

I have seen this, the closest I have found to College Station is Giddings. Where did you buy it? You will find mixed feelings about biodiesel. I personally love it and think that the increased lubricity to the fuel system is great. I have run many gallons of Bio from B20 (20% Bio-80% Dino) to B100. Bio is made from vegetable oil (virgin or waste) that has had the glycerin removed (transterification). I would love to find a local supplier. I'd sure love to see Biodiesel in this area - but we're pretty isolated here. I asked the local Shell distributor about buying it in 55 gallon drums a year or so ago, and the price was outta SIGHT! :--)

I bought it in Austin on 290 (east of 35) at a shell station. I didn't pay attention to the price

We're starting to see it up here in North-Central Idaho now. The town I live in is supposedly selling B5, and the neighboring town's station where Im troubleshooting my APPS problem, has been selling B20 for several months now. There was even talk about putting in a Bio-plant around the Lewiston area. My dad grew some bio-fuel canola last year, and got paid for it, but we dont know where it went. Im planning on contracting 120 acres or so for bio-canola (Hi-ola, Linola). Who knows, maybe it will catch on in the PNW, like it has in the midwest with ethanol!

It will catch on. . it already has. The Stinker stations down here in the SW part of the state are selling B10 and going to B20 next year (that's what I hear anyway).

What do you yield per acre with Hi-Ola Linola and how does that translate into barrels (gallons) of oil?

The local fuel wholesaler here has it, but it has a 20% higher price than ULSD. I've been buying it, but I can't justify the higher price and lower mileage anymore.



It's back to straight dino and stanadyne for me.
