Hey guys, I need some help. I'm getting into some new wheels and tires. I'm going to get 20" gunner 8's with 305/55/R20 Nitto graplers. I saw this same setup on another truck and I really liked it. However, I'm worried about the max load you can put on this tire and wheel combination. In the summer I tow my camper with a four wheeler in the back. Camper is around 9000lbs, 680lbs on the tongue. Four wheeler is around 700 lbs. The Nitto tire I want has a good rating; 3195lbs at 65 psi. I'm good with that. Here's the kicker, the gunner 8 20" wheel I want is rated at 2415lbs per wheel. Am I going to be ok towing these loads with the combination I want to use on the truck? Thanks fellas!

I run the 18" Toyo (same tire) w/ 3000# rating. I was very concerned with this as well as I ran a 4500# slide in camper. I talked and asked a lot of people about over weight. Concensus seem to be "watch the sqush" and "watch the heat".

My personal feeling was that the rating on these tires was conservitive due to being speed rated. There has to be room in the rating if they tell you the tire is good for 120 mph for 2 hrs.

I was told up 10 psi over max was ok to help with the squish. I didn't have a problems in the 2-3 times I towed. Cheched the temp with my hand, not very hot, just warm.

Eventhough I'm not running the 20" I can say IMHO you will be fine with the load you got (1400+/-#) in the bed.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not really worried about the rating on the tire. I'm more worried about the rating on the rim. I think it should be ok. I was just wondering what the weight is on each of the rear tires when the truck is empty. Can't be that much. Anyone else want to chime in?

Most 8-lug rims I've seen are at least 3000 lbs rating, are you sure the Gunner 8 is only 2415? You might call the company and double check that.

You might also consider Centerline wheels, because they're the only ones I've found reasonably close to stock offset and won't sit out far like most do (if that matters to you).

I had a set of Centerline COnvo-Pro's years back on my 94 Ram 1500. Book said no igger than a 31" tire, and I ran 33" BFG A/T Combination sold to me by Super Shops when they were around. Well the rims cracked, NEver hauled anything larger than a couple dirt bikes or a 2 place open snowmobile trailer. . SUpershops ended up giving me new wheels as it was there mistake..... I would watch the ratings

Load your trailer with all the normal gear you take on a typical trip and head for the nearest scales and check the axle weight for each truck and trailer axle if you are within specs of both the truck axles and trailer axles and don't exceed the rating on the wheels you want all is good.

HI Guys,

The Centerline Forged Wheel is comparable to the Weld Evo series. We have the CL in stock and believe they are the best available. With the six inch backspace, and a 2. 5 inch lift, you can clear 35 inch tires without rubbing. I have three styles in stock. Go to the website to check them out. I can also get most others made for your truck. We have a distributor account with CL and that gives us a little pull...

I have those tires in that exact size. Love em. Towed a couple cars on a flat bed tag (one at a time) and never had any problems, whatsoever.

As for the wheel... I would double check that rating. You may want to go with a little stronger wheel if MB sticks with their 2400lb rating. ... . Woah, just found the Gunner 8. Nice lookin wheel! Good price too. Ya know, you may want to check out the eagle 114. Check my readers rigs. Looks similar, little fatter spokes, but rated at 3400lbs. its an ok wheel. Offset is a little too deep for some. Little more $, but not Weld money.

Here it is off Centerlines Website,

1-piece wheel. ROTARY FORGED billet aluminum. Available in chrome or hi-polish mirror finish w/ 3-yr luster warranty. Extremely strong 3200lb load rating per wheel. Up to 44" tire okay! Current style in Wilderness Series. Center Line's forged truck wheels are the strongest wheels in the market. Engineered for tall tires and heavy duty trucks. Wheels proudly manufactured in the USA.

Fellas, not to be rude, but I've already picked out my wheel and its rated at 2415lbs each. I don't want centerline wheels as I've already ordered the wheels I'm going to have. Just need to know how much weight is on each of the rear wheels empty then I'll figure it out from there. Thanks again.

Probably about 1600 - 1700 lbs per side empty, seems too close to me based on what you talking about towing and carrying.

Yeah it is close. I decided to go ahead and buy the wheels. they look good. I'll just keep my old ones and slap em on when I go heavy. Thanks for all the help. BTW, does anyone know what weight the stock wheels are rated for??? I may already be overloading those.

Just wanted to give you guys an update on the tire and rim situatuation. I got the wheels and tires put on last week and they're awesome. They look great. Couldn't be more impressed with the look. I also called the manufacturer of the rim to see if the weight info they supplied is correct. According to them the rim is rated for 3000lbs. I saved my old rims and tires just in case. Thanks for all the inputs.
