In my 2003 truck, I got caught in DPuckett country with a very low tank, I tried to push on for cheaper fuel, but was afraid the great white would be roadside art soon. I pulled in and paid 3. 359 for 31 gallons and change. As memory serves me, it was a 105 dollars... . ouch! :)

On the other hand, I think we were approaching 650 miles on the trip odometer, I would hate to walk, ride a bike or even a horse that far for the cash we burned, not to mention hauling the better half and two dogs. It was a great trip, regardless of the cost. I am sure I passed many opportunities to buy it cheaper.

Kind of reminds me of the time I got caught in the Rocky Mountain National Park driving a 11. 8 to 1 427 in a 1968 Camaro. The smarter half still reminds me of that one once in a while. Just try to buy premium gasoline in a national Park. :) I seem to see some sort of pattern here... . Glen

hahah.

did you have 650miles on one tank?!?!

i think the my average is about 500. if in doin just plain highway i might get closer to 600 maybe but i really doubt it. the reason i ask is, because my speedometer/odemeter have never ever lasted for any entire tank of fuel. not even once. ive gotten 4/5ths of a tank and then it will quit. so i really dont have a true reading to go by.

That 2003 would get 20 to 24 on the highway pretty regularly, unless you tried to run over 68 mph. It dropped fast as the speed went up. The best we ever did was crossing Northern Nebraska after I got to talk to a state trooper for doing 62 in a 55. That resulted in a one time only 27 miles per gallon. The following tank was over 25. I never have done that well with my 4x4 1st gen. The old D250 would get mid 20s if you were not leaning on it.

62 in a 55, I have been a cop for 23 years and am still waiting for my first 7 over traffic stop. I told him that, but he was a whole lot less than impressed. :) He was pretty quick to inform me that Nebraska stops at less than that. He had already filled out a warning ticket when I told him I was an officer, I think it would have cost me bucks had I said that before, he had very little sense of humor.

The 427 was good for 14 to 18 on the road, if you were really nice to it. It had a 3. 23 axle and a wide ratio four speed. The thrill factor was a little higher in the Camaro though.
