ISB applications, and their outputs...

Dmax, 212 RWHP stock, is that it?

my grandpa has a 1985 gmc suburban 4x4 with the 6. 2 diesel this truck simply refuses to die the transmission has been replaced twice but that is due to towing to much, other than that it is all been regular maintaince.

I would like to find a GMC jimmy with a 6. 2 diesel.

anyone else around here have or used to have a 6. 2 powered rig?

I am not proud to say it but I have one

A 1983 2wd long box with the 6. 2 and lovley 700r4 junk box. The only reason I baught this truck is to make noise the 6. 2 engine I think sucks bad most of the time but with the none egr intake manifold and dual glass pack mufflers it makes beutiful music to my ears :D It is not really that bad of a beater truck but I know that my 6. 2 will definitly not make 200k, the previous owner ran lota miles with the egr vavle stuck open and sooted up the engine very bad. In 11k mile I have changed the oil 7 times in the hopes of cleaning up the insides so the good oil can flow. The biggest gripe I have is the very very hard starting even with new glow plugs and controler all other things being good too.

And that is that just MY thaughts on it.

I drove a 1 ton van the other day with a 6. 2. I was surprised how smooth it ran, it wasn't too bad. When I got on the highway and floored it to get up to speed, I wasn't impressed. It revved up like a gas motor but didn't have much go. I think I could outrun it with my Cummins and a trailer behind me.

According to one reference book I have the 6. 2 was rated at:

130 hp:--)

240 lb/ft:--)

In a truck? Do you have to get out an push uphill? Yikes. That would seem downright dangerous in today's traffic.

One time...

About a year and a half ago I was traveling in Ontario. I just happen to pull into this mom-n-pop type fuel station and restaraunt place. I was walking along and saw a 2X4 Suburban pulling what looked to be like a 26' enclosed car hauler, it looked like about an '83 Sub. It came into the parking lot and looked to me like they were going to use the parking lot to turn around in but didn't know where they were going as the other end of the parking lot had no exit. So I watched for a few seconds and noticed it was in a hard spot to do anything.

So this old feeble lady about 70 years old gets out and starts walking toward me asking me if I could help her out cause she was stuck in the parking lot. She didn't think she could could get it out. I was surprised to see who was driving such a rig. Her husband looked a few years older and was very crippled. She was lucky she asked me because I backed a whole I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER-load of trailers around the yard for RPS as my college job and had gotten good at it, and I already knew what I would do if I were pulling that trailer and stuck in that spot. I guess I sort of waited around watching just in case they did get stuck or didn't feel confident enough to get it out.

So anyway, I jumped in. Her and her husband stepped out and watched as I got it out of the bad position it was in. It was loud, hot, and the trailer felt really heavy (too heavy for that truck). It may have been hot because usually older people tend to be cold and turn on more heat than me. It took a really big pedal push to get the monster to move. It felt way underpowered, but that rig had a whole mess of miles on it, I don't remember how many. Well I got their rig out by moving forward once then rearward once, making it look much easier than it was, and parked it where they could drive straight out of the parking lot.

They soon left, I was glad to help them out. Even though the rig didn't feel very powerful, it got the job done and I would've been able to live with that. So a 6. 2L or a 6. 5L wouldn't be too bad to me. I'd rather have that than the 5. 7L gasser I had in my '88 3/4 ton 4X4 Sub. There's no way my 5. 7L 3/4 ton would've survived pulling as much weight as theirs was doing. I regularly pulled about maybe as much as 3,500 lbs with mine, and that seemed like as much as it could pull.

A guy I worked for had both a 6. 2 and 6. 5. The main reason alot of those trucks are gutless is because of gearing. I was told that both of their trucks had 3. 08 gears in the diffs. Good for 20mpg. but not much else. The old '82 F-250 I had would easily out pull that truck with a larger load. HP. was the same, but the 400V8 that I had, supposedly had approx. 310ft/lbs of torque. Also had 3. 54 gears. If the 6. 2 had a 5spd. behind it and 3. 73 or 4. 10s it would have a much better chance. RPM's in O/D w/ 3. 08's are way to low for pulling much weight.

Had a 6. 2, It ran okay, had 2 rebuilds in 120,000 miles, (2nd rebuild at 120,000 because of broken piston skirt) when we took it apart for the skirt, ended up rebuilding the whole thing and putting a banks turbo on it... ran good for 250 miles, threw a rod, cracked the block, etc. They were a good diesel considering they were V8 and if you used them in a light duty application.

I like my straight six Isuzu 5. 8 liter and allison much better. :D

I had a 6. 5 Diesel before the Ram, and it was the worst vehicle I have ever owned. It was a Z71. 40 line item repairs in 70K miles. I will never own another Garbage motors vehicle again.

I drove a friend's '84 Suburban with 6. 2L, it was geared fairly low, yet was still abysmally gutless.

One hill for example, coming up from Vantage WA is not too terribly steep, maybe 5%, yet 45-50 was all it could do. My truck with RV injectors and nothing else could hit 110 on the same grade.

Once I gasser-started it (didn't wait for glow plugs). Even though it was a warm day and it had only been 3 hours since it was driven last, it missed, shook and smoked when I fired it up.

My "other" truck is...

An '83 chevy s-10 with a 125 hp 2. 8 liter v-6 gasser. 209K on the odometer. The 6. 2 and 6. 5 TD I have driven (never owned) were as gutless as the s-10. Some days even the blind pig will find a root; otherwise: fuggettaboutit!:p
