Competition Ever broke the factory 1 3/8 input on 6spd

No, not in cummins... at least not an ISB.

I posted this on another forum but someone suggested I post it here.

I was talking to a guy about his tractor (Rebuilding tractors is my OTHER hobby) and he told me that the pro pullers can get close to 200 PSI of boost in those high performance tractors. I have seen some pretty wild setups but did not think that 200 PSI was possible. I know that some of those JD's will smoke thick and black even at idle. If they do hit 200 PSI I wonder what type of EGT's they are seeing? Also, How do they keep those things together with that much boost? I am intrigued and would like to understand how they make 200 PSI possible.

Thanks

Phil

I can't see how it's possible without 3 turbos. Pushing two that hard is trouble. Are you sure you're not mixed up between the super-smoker, single turbo, stock class and the alcohol units? I have heard they replace the upper rod and main cap bearings after every pull though.

It very well probably is triple turbo alcahol burning tractors. Are these more like a gasser?? The things are ear splitting and put on an awesome show!! I am fascinated by these pullers. What got them into this sport? Are they farmers? What about those guys with two and even three engines? I never miss the pulls when they are in town. I just love it!!

I have a video filmed in the early 80's of a puller that had 6 blown hemi's. It was actually pretty dissapointing to say the least. Schieds trucks are way more impressive that it was. Bigfoot pulled the same sled further than the tractor did!!! I think they said it was a 30K sled.

Alky burners actually use less boost because of detonation problems, more of a high volume lower pressure approach. My pulling truck has hit over 180lbs, but we have trimed it down some to make the motor stay together, and prolong the life of the charger bearings.

If you get the chance in Feb i believe the second weekend go to the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville Ky. Youll see all kinds of big boy toys Oo.

Guys,

I pit for and rebuild 4 pulling tractors. 2 super farm, 1 super stock diesel, and one 7,000lb open. 200psi of boost is not uncommon when your running 4 chargers. last time i checked the electronic readout we hit 251. 7 psi. so it is possible. if you look closely in the pic that is posted of a split block you can see a cable or two. they are there inplace to keep the block and chargers from flying away when things go bad.

Andy, what kind of Rs are you turning? The last couple years someone from MN has pulled for show here in Mandan, ND with a single turbo IH, I talked to him at length. This guy was turning a normal looking IH engine 4500 rpm and had turned it 5500 previously with a different cam. He said someone was killed when the top half of their engine broke off and flew backwards. So he said the rules now say one strap around the front of the engine, that way the top half of the engine will fly to the front if it breaks off.

He told me there were tractors just like his with four turbos and 250 boost in MN. I see he was right.

Very impressive.

our little tractor turns upwards of 7g's but it is a 360 IH block that has been very well balanced. by chance do you remember the name of the guy or the name of the tractor? chances are i prolly know him. there is a guy just down the road that is 13 time national champ in the super stock diesel class. he runs 4 chargers and sets up many of his competitors, he is quite the sportsman. if you have a better setup than him he will make it work for you regardless, true class there.

there is a tractor puller right by me (runs the screamin deamon 1 and 2), ive talked to numerous times and he explained it to me that he uses 4 chargers and stages them 3 times  , said his egts never get above 1400* because they inject close to a 50/50 of fuel and water. i think he said his tractor was making close to 2000 hp :--) , and i belive he also said that he was right around 200+ psi!!!! not telling anyone thier wrong, just relaying what the driver told me, i want one for my truck Oo.

Sorry, that one was custom made. Send me an e-mail with the size, series (bezel/face colors) and what you want and I'll see what I can do.
