a guy i know has the truck. 2000 6 speed. we were at a pull in ia. last saturday. he let hise wife drive. oh boy! she killed the truck twice on thetake off. got about half track and it died. we pulled it out and let it cool down. it cranks and that's it! i have a snap on scanner but my programs are for 99 and down. could the pull have screwed the lift pump? is there a fuel saftey shut off? she jerked the sled hard!!!! thanks for the help guys:(

NFOX your 99 scanner should read a 2k. I was looking for one for my 2k and there have been no updates since 99 for a 2k as of last Dec.

The scanner reads them all the same

Your scanner will read the 2000 ecm and pcm's... the codes are the same for 98 to 2000, so no problem there.

But it sounds to me that the injection pump is dead. Maybe when she jumped off the throttle, the shaft siezed from lack of fuel to lubricate it.

You'll probably see codes: P0181 and P0216

I talked to a man at Muncie and he said that his truck quit on him while he was doing somthing stupid(would not say what)and he said they had to replace a saftey shut off at or around the pump, and thats all I know. I hope this helps. Can you here the fuel pump running when you first turn the truck on,have you checked the fuel press, and fuses?

The 24 valve engines DO NOT have a safety shut-off or a reset valve... the pumps either work or they're dead.

I don't think this was his wifes fault... it sounds to me like the truck owner doesn't know that you need to check and pressure test the fuel systems (if you don't have permanant psi gauge installed) and say on top of it, or things like this happen.

Dead 24 valve

We put my brothers Snap On scanner on the truck and it showed no codes. The lift pump still works, if you crack the line at the filter housing it will spray fuel every where. We cracked two lines at the injectors and there is no fuel there at all. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help!!

Try cracking the injection lines and bleeding the air from them. I have seen a couple trucks that when stopped very fast/hard would get air in the lines..... Usually cracking just #1 cranking until you get good fuel does the trick.

This may not be the problem but its worth a try. Good luck,

Doug

Dead 24 valve

When we cracked the lines at the injectors, we cranked the engine for 15 to 20 seconds and waited about 2 minutes and reapeated the same process 4 times and still no fuel at the injectors.
