Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2000 2500 Automatic transmission hunts for gear

My Dad's 2000 2500 with an automatic transmission hunts for 2nd gear once in a while, but only with no load. If he uses the accelerator pedal a little harder there is no problem. The transmission fluid has been changed with a new filter at least 3 times. The truck has 105,000 light duty miles. Any ideas?

try this

Try resetting the APPS by disconnecting the batteries for an hour or so than reconnect, turn key on but do not start and slowly depress the "gas" pedal three times. It solved my hunting problem. If that does not work do a simple search for "hunting trans" or something like that.
