Hi – I’m having a no-start problem. The truck was running fine with no apparent issues, parked it Sat evening, went to start it Monday morning and it just cranks with no start.

I’m on an island in SE Alaska so have limited trouble-shooting tools at present. I do not have fuel pressure gauges or a fault scanning tool.

I have checked the following:

-Lift pump motor runs when turning the key on and after starter engagement.
-Fuel to the fuel filter housing. When I press the Schrader valve fuel goes everywhere with the lift pump running.
-Heater grids working fine, air intake horn is warm after all the cycling.
-Undid 2 fuel injector lines at the injector pump – lots of fuel did come out but only when the nut was completely loosened and didn't appear to be
under a huge amount of pressure...
-Liquid feels and smells like diesel fuel, not water...
-Check Engine light is NOT on.
-Water-In-Fuel light is NOT on.
-Did the 3-cycle on-off with the key and only get a P1693 code then done.
-Checked fuse #9 (per another post) looked good but still changed it out, made no difference.
-Batteries are less than 2 years old, motor is spinning fast / not dragging (sounds like normal)

Not sure if it’s an injector pump issue but don’t know what to check next.

Thank you for any help!

You are doing some good troubleshooting here with your limited resources. Just having you double check one thing. When you did the 3 cycle on-off with the key and after you saw code P1693, then DONE - did the display switch back to the odometer reading? I am asking this because if there is an ECU code set, there will be a long pause after DONE and then the ECU codes will display followed by another DONE, then finally followed by an odometer reading.

Thanks for the replies... on the 3 cycle key on-off it goes back to the odometer reading. I did this a few times to make sure there was no other codes listed and the P1693 is all I get before it goes back to the odometer.

Are you checking for fuel flow before or after the filter?

Your canister is different than my 98 and I don't remember where a schraeder valve may be. I'm just thinking a possible plugged filter but I'm sure you've already considered that.

No codes makes it difficult, Like Snoking mentioned the best diagnostic info you will ever find is on Blue Chips website. No start test #2 and #3 likely pertains to you.

I did the No Start Tests per the instructions and it didn't start, so it does look like an injector pump problem.

So, at the risk of starting something, what is the general experience of a genuine Bosch remanufactured unit and one from say The Diesel Store or Blue Chip, etc.?

I don't do heavy hauling or have the engine chipped...

Thanks again for the help!

Howdy from Knik,

I know all the trouble shooting you've been doing & I'm gonna toss this out there. You folks have been getting so much rain this summer/fall down in SE Alaska, don't overlook a water issue. With houses floating away & whole mountains sloughing off that way, you never know what the fuel supple at the fuel pumps is like. Good luck
