Dealer says my turbo is shot
Engine light came on one night without any noticable problems. The next day there was no power, seems like no boost but I don't have a gauge. By 2000 rpm there is nothing left. Went to my dealer and they got high map sensor voltage codes and sustained high map sensor voltage. He said boost was 0 and the turbo was the problem. Drove 20 miles in this low power condition and later that night when I started the truck it ran normally for the 6 mile trip home. This morning it ran fine for 6 miles. Engine light went off and it ran fine till I hit my 1/4 mi long driveway and I noticed it back on when I went to shut down. Went back out on the road and it ran normally. I pull a 22' gooseneck and need this truck for work. It has 117,000 miles on it. I checked the lift pump and changed the fuel filter.
1) Can a turbo act like this?
2) If so where is the best place to get one? My dealer wants $1200 for a rebuilt one.
I would appreciate any appllicable info.
