Does anyone have any idea how to replace the lower ball joints on a 2wd indepentent suspension 1 ton truck. We are not sure because it appears to have rivits holding on the lower ball joint.

My 95 lower ball joints were spot welded. The book called for the whole lower a-arm to be replaced. We just grinded off the spot welds and pressed out the old ball joint.

While the FSM states that the suspension arm must be replaced in the event of an out of tolerance lower ball joint, replacement parts are available. AutoZone carries one for $75. The rivets must be chiseled off or drilled out. I've done both on GM vehicles. The new ball joint should come with new bolts.

AZ shows a press rental available. I don't know if you will need it. I never needed one on the GMs I did. All the ball joints on my 01 have been replaced by the PO and all are bolted in now.
