Allison conversion help

Questions

I have some questions.

1, How did you interface the Allison to the Dodge PCM?

2, How do the Mechanicals bolt up? 2A, The bell housing the same? SAE #2? 2B, The flexplate/flywheel bolt patterns, are they the same?

3, Hows it drive? Are the shifts firm with out being harsh?

4, How much HP/ Torque can the Allison handle at what level of mod$?

5, Were did you stay at IRP, I think I saw that silver truck with the allison sticker :D Moose00

We live 20 minutes from IRP. We were running around the show.

Now there's a bunch of questions.

It shifts like an Allison, perfect. It firms up when you get on it though, just like it should.

Gabes running a stage IV Allison and it seems to be happy with his power level.

Just like Brayden said, It does shift perfect. It can handle all the power I am giving it, 650+ hp, I didn't really do any interfacing because it isn't really needed. The money was well spent on the doing the conversion. The allison makes the 47re look like it belongs in a chevette. I tore both trannys down and rebuilt the allison and the 47. There is no comparison in size.

Looks like it belongs in there... very cool.

Which transfer case did you use? That looks like an NV-271/273...

I dig the SAE bellhousing - same one I'm running with my project.

I saw the silver Dodge @ IRP running down the return road with the Allison badges.

I am using the NV263 for now. I am trying to find a 261. I was with the silver Dodge all weekend. I put my badges on that day but I didn't drive it around a whole lot.

So the Allison 1000 is a stand alone transmission that doesn't take any input from the engine in front of it?

The Allison uses it's own TCM to control the trans. It needs a few input from the engine to work correctly. Without them, it will go nowhere.

Please go into a few more details for us if you can. Is the trans and transfer case out of a newer chevy with a dmax or is this an off the shelf unit and did the transfer case just bolt wright up? What kind of shift handle or controle is up in the cab? Does this trans have an over drive? Can a man use an older allison 545 with a 205 transfer case some how? Is a 545 an overdrive and stand alone transmission? What kind of $ are we talking to preform a swap, I would be looking at scraping a getrag to replace it with an alison? Thanks Jon

Oh so many questions.

This transmission is a 5 speed overdrive. The AT545 is a 4 speed without overdrive and does not have a lockup converter. Not a good choice for a pickup truck. It also never came with any provision for a transfer case. You'd have to run a divorced NP205 with it.

The 1000 we're using is using the 4wd adapter housing that the GM trucks use. I used a manual shift T-case from a silverado (very rare).

The silver truck was a six speed manual and now has a custom console in the center to hold a stereo system and the shifter. This is not necessary, you could use all factory dodge parts to convert to an column shift if you had a manual. If you have an auto to start with then you just need the correct linkage.

On my black dodge, I had a auto prior to putting this in. I was able to modify some of the stock linkage and I made some of my own stuff. It is not an easy swap but one definitely worth doing. Brayden and I are getting ready to do a couple more swaps in the next couple months with Dodges. People are finally getting smart!! :)

looks nice just wondering on teh access to bolt the convertor to the flex plate? do you access from the sae bellhousing or what?

Thanks,

Deo

Where did you find the SAE bellhousing and which TCM did you use?

I thinking of doing a CTD/allison conversion on my 99 superduty.

Oh, that would be sweet! Oo.

Brayden - I called and left you a message. We need to talk! :D

the tcm is a duramax and the bellhousing is kinda tough to find unless you want to spend 800 for a new one!! You will just have to look around to find one.

Thanks, I was thinking the Dmax TCM would probably be the way to go.
