Thanks for all the great info. I don't have anything to add as I have only had my truck for about 6 weeks, but I am learning a lot from all of you.

I have used PSC assist on my Wrangler - top shelf stuff.

We are driving the truck from Minnesota to Montana for skiing again this year and I couldn't put up with the loose steering any longer.

After reading this thread and others I installed a Borgeson steering box and steering shaft in the truck last night. It wasn't too bad an install and took about 3. 5 hours. If I'd know exactly what I was doing, it would have been faster, but that's just life!

On my test drive I took it around the neighborhood and out on the interstate. It really is a great improvement! The track bar still has some slop in it, but there was virtually no wondering like it use to have.

I'm not sure if it is the tighter ratio or the lack of slop, but when I turned back into my driveway I turned like I normally would and the truck turned so quickly I ran over the curb!

Thanks for all the info...

I changed my steering box on my 98 12v 5 years ago. Also I put in a Borgeson steering shaft because I knew I would eventually do it anyway. When you go from a 4&1/4 turn stop to stop to a 3 turn it makes all the difference. Dodge chose to use the GM Saginaw box and there are no markings on the outside of the boxes to indicate the ratio. An assembly line worker had no way of knowing which ratio he/she was installing or that there was a difference unless he/she counted the turns when turning the shaft. They are no doubt in too big a hurry to do that. I seriously doubt they knew there was a difference. The 4&1/4 turn was intended for high profile vehicles to prevent roll over in a sudden avoidance maneuver. They were shipped to Dodge from GM and the shipper may not have known. Then it could have been a dirty trick. I have heard of Dodge owners trading in their trucks because no body knew what was causing the wandering. Years ago I read an article in TDR or I would never have known about it. I was about ready to trade mine in. Maybe some people are more annoyed by it than others. I was more than just a little annoyed. I am keeping my truck.
