i usually hang out in the first gen forum see signature. I drove my dad's 2000 24 valve 3/4 ton 4x4 with auto trans in it. The truck only has about 10k miles on it now. I noticed that everytime you turn off the engine it makes a sound similar to sneezing. i asked my dad about it and he was told by the dealer that this is perfactly normal. Anyone had this problem, if so what is the cause of it.

Mine has done it for 22,000 miles. Love the sound. it announces a real truck has arrived. From previous threads on this site, I believe it is caused by the engine stopping quicker than the serpentine belt. In other words, it's a belt "sneeze. "

The "sneeze" you are referring to is indeed the "chirp" that most people refer it as. It will happen especially when the silicon fluid is hot in the fan clutch to force more fan lockup, when the motor stops the fan wants to keep going. You can eliminate this by putting on a Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt.

My 2001 has never had the belt chirp. In fact, most if the manual-transmission trucks I have driven do not have the chirp. The automatics on the other hand, do.

I love to shut the truck off when there are a group of people around, First they look because of the engine noise, and then the chirp really makes them look, sounds like a motor seizing I think.

Yep my 01. 5 does the same chirp. I believe in the owner manual it says this is normal???? My buddies 96 does it also. Both trucks are auto if it indeed makes a difference.
