My transmission started acting up about a month ago. Here's a little background:
- Location: Vegas (avg day temp= ~106)
- Towing: 19. 5' Sea Ray about 2-3 times/mo
- Triple gauge cluster monitoring EGT/Fuel Press/transmission Temp
- Mileage: 55,000
- Second owner - purchased from dealership 2 years ago.
Here's the symtoms
- Symtoms: When getting up to speed on main roads (speed limit of 45), the transmission slips when I'm barely on the throttle. Doesn't seem to slip if I'm accelerating, only when I'm just putting in a little throttle. Almost acts like it doesn't know which gear to be in (think of it as "bouncing" between gears). Typical RPM change when this occurs is ~500-700.
It's made it to the shop twice now (out of warranty according to Dodge based on my VIN). The first trip resulted in a diagnostic fault leading them to change out the Governor Pressure sensor and solenoid. NO FIXIE.
Took it back and this time no error indications present but the "experts" decided that the torque converter must be the culprit. Picked it up today and called them not 10 min down the road to report the exact same problem. Doing 50, light pressure on accelerator and wala, boingo bounco.
They now think it's got to be the valve body (this one's on them... at least that's what they told me over the phone).
Anybody have other logical potential culprits.
:: I worked flight line maint for a number of years and this seems like either a controller (on of the computers on this thing) or a valve (but I'm pure greenhorn when it comes to transmission's)
