2000Pontiac Grand Prix GTP water leak

Water pump replaced last month, no leaks. Idler pulley/Alternator bracket replaced last night, now a water leak. Idler pulley/Alternator bracket has water passages, supplied with 2 plastic elbows with O-rings installed. 2 O-rings supplied for heater hose connections.

Didn't mess with water pump or radiator hoses.

This is a puzzler. Point of reference, the noise we were chasing turned out to be a failed harmonic balancer. Replaced that as well. Thinking of putting the old idler pulley/Alternator back on as it didn't leak.

Any other ideas. Thanks in advance.

When you removed the parts did you remove the same number of O-rings? Is is even possible to assemble it with an extra or missing one?

Maybe you can borrow a pressure tester from the parts store to track down the leak.

A lot of times it's the last thing I worked on that is the issue.

Yes. Took one off of each heater hose connection. Put one new on each. The plastic elbows had O-Rings pre-installed.

Planning on going through the install process and possibly re-installing the old one, in case the new one is flawed.

NAPA had one with metal Connectors. No leaks. Now I have to go to Vatozone and try to get my money back.

And then the danged thing caught fire.

Hopefully was not a bad one. I've had that happen with an Camero in the old fashion inspection lane, was a friend's he wanted me to drive it there with/for him, darn thing had no air cleaner and timing was way off so it was a bunch of stop and go, get to the head of the line car backfires thru the carb and spit some fuel up on top of the engine. Luckily they had already pushed us back out of the small building, I popped the hood and was able to toss my new Carhardt jacket over the top of the engine and put it out.

We get the thing all sorted, drive out, get on the side street and dam thing does it again, same deal, pop the hood toss my new jacket on it a second time putting it out, I forget if we made it home or had to get it towed. I feel we got a ride home.

Another time we were in stop and go traffic on the highway and was maybe 3 cars behind a large old school wagon had some teenagers in it, they stalled out and were coasting on the shoulder, but I could see under the car was flames, so I stopped a little ways in front of them and used my small little on board fire extinguisher, it put the fire out, and everyone was like YAY!, then 30 seconds later it flamed back up! AHH.... but as a result some other folks we nice enough to stop and use their better on board units to put it out.

It's never a fun situation at the time.
