i found a dodge with the vin # 1b7kf23721j532776 is this an 01 or 01. 5 and it has 56K on it already. wow that is alot of miles. should i be leary of this truck. he wants $25,500.

Ask him if it has rear disks or not... . simplist way to handle it. Or the date it was built.

It should be an early built, but I'm not sure what would be considered early or late. If you look at the vehicle certification label on the drivers door, on the bottom line it should have MDH (month, date and hour built) XXXXX. Anything between about August and December 31 was built in 2000, January to about June or July is 2001 calendar year.

You should be able to see the rear brakes through the slots in the wheels.



To decode the vin, visit http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/VIN_decode.htm although there doesn't seem to be any indication of 01 vs 01. 5 in the vin.

I am curious as to what you mean about the disc brakes?



Also, mine has 65,000. 90% of that is highway. There are plenty of others that are higher out there. You can figure with that many miles, they are mostly highway miles. As long as the body and interior look nice, I wouldn't let the mileage bother me. Look at it this way, it is already broken in and ready to be put to use. What more could you ask for?

in the middle of the run of 2001's there was a change in the rear brakes. They went from drums to disc on the rear. If you look through the wheel and see the caliper like the front it is a 2001. 5 I think the change actually took place around July 2000. I took delivery of mine on 11/4/00. I have 55,000 on it now.

I LOVE driving this truck, and take the long... ... way everywhere. Drove a hard 4K miles last summer in five days. Didn't turn the radio/stereo on once... . just groovin on those Cummins tunes.

Thats just gettin broke in...

A good friend of mine (whom I rarely see) has an 01 HO 3500 with 257K. That was in May when I saw him, he's probably close to 350K by now. Second front axle, transmission(I think), lift pump, and injector pump... all stock.

OK, That means I have a 2001. 5. I always thought that since I bought it so early in the year of 2001 that it was a 2001. Thanks for the info.

I've got a 2001. 5 and it has over 70K miles already. It's just now broken-in properly! I luv my truck and the engine's still stock!!

I paid $25K for a 2000 3500 4x4 ETC auto with everything but leather on it and it had around 35K miles on it at the time. I think the price is in the ballpark depending what is on the truck. Can you describe the truck in more detail? How do the tires look? etc.

thanks guys for the input. it looks like i might be going with the 2003 but i am not sure (the wife has come a long way) i have to find out how much $200 over invoice will be for the 03'. i have a buddy who is going to cut me a deal on an 03' for $200 over invoice. i will post how much this 03' is going to be at $200 over invoice in case you guys are thinkng about an 03'.

Seeing the prices that these used trucks are going for makes me happy !

I bought my 2001. 5 quad cab sport 4x4 new last november. I had the dealer do the paint and interior protection,rust proofing , tint the windows and put on 295 All-terrains and I paid $30k out the door.

She now has 25,000 on it.

my '01. 5 had 8800 miles on it when i bought it. it has every option but leather and overhead console. i got it for 31k out the door at a FORD dealer. said an older man traded it on a powersmoke, what a dummy!! it has 29k and will be 2 years old in february. couldnt have asked for a nicer and cleaner truck.

my 01. 5 built according to the door on 11/00 in mexico, has the rear disc's. bought it new in 9/01, dealer had a used one loaded w/40k on it for 29k. mine 30,900. And mine was the HO 6sp.
