 A simple question for the knowledgeable. What month did the 2001 model become a 2001. 5? I am looking at purchasing an EZ unit but I need to know if my DRam is a 2000 or a 2000. 5. Apparently Dodge made some changes, which prevents me from using a 2000 model EZ.

June 2001

Well if it depends on whether I have rear disc brakes then mine must be a 2001. 5. It was built in 06 2001 and it has rear discs.

Thanks for the help.

2001 models began production on Jan 1, 2000. The 2001 model year was extended "back" (forward?) for Rams and PT Cruisers to meet 2001 CAFE requirements. The idea was that the PT, being a small fuel efficient "truck", would offset the low fuel economy of 1500 Rams. The ETH (HO diesel) engine was introduced with the 2001 models.

2001. 5 models began production sometime around *edit August of 2000*. The 2001. 5 is not a DC designation, it was created by Ram owners as a way to differentiate between the early versions of the 2001 model, and the later versions with disc brakes but fewer body moldings, grab handles, etc.

i know there has been lots of discussion about the demise of the grab handles, rear seat cupholders, etc. i don't miss 'em as much as i enjoy my rear wheel disc brakes..... i continue to luv th' goat more every day. drivin' to work used to be a pain. now i'm at my parkin' place WAY TOO soon. :)

Dave. . are U sure about the 2001. 5 starting in April of 2001. . or is it April of 2000??? I have a 2001 that I have always thought was a 2001. 5. . it has the rear disks, but has the cup holders, and handles. . It was built 9/2000... .

Oops TractorNut,

No I am not sure about the date.

The 2001. 5 brake change occurred in August of 2000 after the usual factory shutdown for the model year change. The missing cupholders, handles, etc. were gradually phased out by April 2001, which is the date that stuck in my mind. Perhaps I am "mature" for my age??
