My 2001 3500 dually 4x4 auto 3. 54 70K miles. Transmission has started acting up when it comes to a stop. It feel like the transmission is having problems down shifting into first gear. The truck jerks like an odd shift just prior to coming to a complete stop. When you start off after this, the truck seems to be in second gear. I have found if I manually pull into 1st gear and then back to drive and the problem goes away for a while. Is this a valve body problem? I purchased truck in July 04 with 65K. I don't know if transmission has had fluid changed so will do fluid & filter. Any special filter recommended?

It is one of two things. Either a linkage or your governor pressure. Most likely the governor pressure. The parts to fix it are about $150-175. Those parts are the governor solenoid and governor poressure sensor. Try to do a search on those two items. Soemone just the other week did a detailed description of how to do the repair.

BTW- welcome to the TDR!
