Will I just looked and I have the 53 Block. I have over 91,000 on it and all looks good.

I guess if it crackes after the 100,000 with all the trouble that they are having with the 53 block, who pays for the new one. I guess I'll cross that bridge at a later date. but in the mean time I will keep on useing it for what it was made for. Pulling and having fun with Phords and chby.

0* paranoid roll in the snow.

"55" si or however you say it in portugese.

Build date 11/00 somewhere in Mexico.

01. 5 with the sweet 4 wheel discs

Well, I finally got up the nerve to go check out both of my trucks.

My 2k made in Mexico has the 53 block. . (38k on it and so far so good. . thank goodnesx)

The wife's 2k1 literall is not marked. I looked all over the place and she does not have the stamp in it like mine does. Her's was produced in St. Louis. . so hopefully it is alright.

well well well

I wish that someone that has the 53 block to take a pic and post it here for everyone to look at and show were it is located on the block. I looked all over and can not see the 53 or any other numbers from 53 up. I would post pic’s but don't have the number 53 and a digital camera. Can someone help out others in finding the number 53 on there blocks with pics?

I doubt you have a 50 series block. The number is hard to miss. I had a 2000 without any 50 seres number and looked 4-5 times trying tofind the number. On my 2002 I looked one time and there it was "hard to miss". If you are looking from under your truck, driverside front, it would be to the right of the wiring loom, just above the oil pan on the side of the block and under the VP-44. Use a flash light. If you don't see it you don't have one. Count your blessings. I would take a picture but I don't have a digital camera.

Proturbo - I followed the post by Chipstien. His post gives a perfect explanation of where the number is located. I'll try my best to get a digital pic when I get home.

Pretty much if you are under the truck on the drivers side. Look at the front corner driver side corner where the block and the oil pan come together. From the front of the block, come back about 6 inches. Right in front of you should now be a wire loom in which is coming from the positive side of the starter. Right above that wire loom my block had about a 2" by 2" flat square in which is stamped on it "53" The numbers are about 1" by 1" big, you can't miss it.

But then again, when I looked on the wifes truck. Her truck had the same flat spot with no numbers on it. So there could be a possibility that your's isn't stamped either.

Does anybody else know if there are any other ways to tell besides this spot on the block what series it is? Before I found where the number was stamped, I looked at the serial number plate behind the VP 44. It said that my enging serial number is 56xxxx then below that it says REL. NO 5304xxxx.

Does this particular 53 mean anything?

Thanks

Engine number

K_Arts:

There does not seem to be a correlation between the numbers. I have a "53" block, but the serial # is 564*****

picture

This is a attempt at the picture of 53 on Passenger side just above oil pan front of engine, Below oil filter. I tried multiple angles and settings on camera. This site will not let me post the clearer one, to many pixles even after I cut then down to almost nothing. Diffucult to get the other side of block but I will try. Let me screw around with this a little more... ... . I will also try to post the series of numbers on my block that are just above and to the rear of the 53, these are a combo of letter IHO or something like that with some numbers behind them, each time I look they appear different to me... .....

You guys really got me going on this 53 block thing.

So I had to be sure exactly witch engine I have.

I found I had to remove two bolts holding the big wire loom near the steering pump, and pull the loom away from the engine, about 2". Wipe it clean and what I found was, I do not have a 53.

All letters were one half inch or shorter as follows

ME

B 15 E8L

l

98. 5 built in St. Louis

Driver side

The picture above was pas side. here is driver side, my wire loom was about 3" above number. The picture on the passenger are much easier to see, much bigger numbers, and in the open... ... .....

smaller numbers driver side

Here is the smaller numbers drivers side just above and behind the 53. through wheel well, a little hard to make out. The first 2 letters are behind the wire loom.

Toolman I sent the picture to your email. Thanks

Are the numbers supposed to be in that little indentation on the left side of the block? because that looks like were the numbers are to the pics they are posted.

Don't quote me on this but on my block the 53 on the passenger side was much easier to see, you could not miss it. So I would look on that side of the block also. Straight below the oil filter just above the pan... ... ... ... ... That was the first picture I posted... ...

Yes you are right on the spot. I included a pic so that you can see where this is.

If you would like I can send you the full size pic, in which you could actually see the numbers 53 on my block.

For a block that is outnumbered 8 to 1 seems alot of people have the mexican block. That tells me that peoplare not looking at the right #'s. When I checked mine at first all I saw was a bunch of smaller #'s. Then deciding that I should take a closer look at it I realized that I somehow missed the large #'s staring me in the face. 55  I suggest to those who think they have the mexican block to take another look. Lay on your back under the drivers side of the truck and put your finger on the spot where the oil pan meets the block. (At the front of the engine on the driver's side. ) Then look right above there. The 53 or 55 #'s are stamped into a recessed area below the large wire loom and are easy to overlook untill you find it and wonder how you missed it. Then above that are a bunch of smaller #'s that are partially covered by the wire loom. These are not the #'s you are looking for. I have both sets of #'s but the only one that matters is the 55. Bet there will be a few less mexicans and more brazilians. :D Regardless... . I will sleep better here on out.

I did exactly what you said to do NO 50 ANYTHING, I looked all over because I was definatly paranoid. How many trucks do you think are out there? You said 8 to 1 ratio doesnt add up??? Im betting there are a ton of dodge deisels on this web site so your bound to find some taco blocks! Also some of the 50 series guys that dont have the 53 dont post because they dont care! I have a series of wierd #'s on mine some hard to read (check my post earlier in this thread to see exactly) some of the numbers were almost round off. Ive been told now by several people on here that I probably have the TACO block! BTW my truck was built down there at TACO BELL!
