I have a 2001 3500 dodge and have purchased the crankcase breather elimination kit from Fleetgaurd, part # cv50115. My question is how do you remove the plug above the pan rail beneath the injector pump where this kit routes vented oil back into the oil pan? Can this be done without removing the oil pan? Can the oil pan be removed without raising the engine to clear the crank? I do have an oil leak at the rear of the pan and could take care of this at the same time as the plug removal. Thanks for your help, Chris

There are a few threads on this if you do a search. Some people had success 'threading' a bolt into the plug and pulling it out. Others have been able to pry the plug up and out with a flat bladed screwdriver. I think, depending on model yr of truck, there are different types of plugs so you need to experiment. I tried to get a bolt to thread into my plug but in pushing the bolt down I pushed the plug into the pan. After talking to Cummins and many people on this site I left it there and haven't had any issues. I'll look for it during oil changes. It's a small, pot metal plug that can't get into the pickup tube anyway. As for dropping the oil pan, I think you have to lift the engine to remove it. Good luck, Chuck

P. S. The vent kit is a great addition if you like a clean garage floor. Very happy with mine.
