The dome light in my 2001 quad cab quit working. I assumed it would be a simple matter to remove or open the fixture to check for the presence of voltage and or replace the bulb. When I attempted removal it felt like I was going to break something like a plastic retaining clip or something and I really don't want my dome light dangling by the wires as I'm heading out on a loooong trip this week. Has anybody else here had their dome light apart and if so what is the trick? Before you ask yes the cargo lights and front courtesy lights are operative so I don't believe I have a fuse problem. Thanks in advance; Steve.

i think on mine you have to open the clear lens first, once the lens is open you can just slide or pop the whole lamp assembly out. as i remember there are no screws or clips that hold it in place, the lens when closed has some feet that flop down and make the surface area of the light larger than the lip on the bottom, thus keeping it in place, when you open the cover the feet flip up and let you remove the whole unit.

tagalong question

OK, so how many TDR members does it take to change a lightbulb?

In this case, I pose the question because I can't figure out how to change the bulb in the courtesy/map light in the overhead... the ones (left and right) that come on when you open the door and can push on at any time to read the map or see where you've dropped the phone to...

No trip computer...

thanks!

The map console has to come off the headliner to replace the bulbs.

There are two screws towards the front of the Overhead console, remove those, then slide the console towards the rear of the truck, and the console should drop down some. If you ahve the compass/thermometer there is a harnees you should un-plug to make the replacement easier.

After that, there are some "star" type screws that hold on a plastic "plate", you need to remove this plate to get to the bulbs. I had luck with an allen wrench that was laying around my truck, but I can't recall the size right now, once you remove the cover inside the console, you can get to the bulbs, replace 'em, and re-assemble in opposite order you removed it. :D

Hope this Helps!! :D
