I'll bet this one was a motor replaced by a dealer. I hear it is very common for GM to replace the complete motor when there is any problems on their gasser motor too. I guess this is an easier fix than to try to fix the problem.



Good point about the DuraDud Maxipad boys not believing this either. I'm sure they'll just deny that it never existed on ebay.

Well Steve, I need to see the date of veiwing that site, and HTTP address as well as an IP# address, and the type of printer CURRENTLY hook up to your computer for vaification(sp?) of this claim since you didn't give a link.

one poster said something about that he knows of a Cummins with a cracked block... . but compare that to "6600 take out engines"!



The thread sounds like a setup... to see how much we would rank on the duradud... .

What to do with such an engine? I can't think of anything I'd want to put it in. A vietnamese sampan canal boat, maybe.

I don't know why these guys flip out over this stuff. Until they remove humans from the assembly, design, testing, and operation processes, there will be failures. Not that a broken push rod in a low milage engine isn't like, "Wait who stomped this thing, and where was the governor. " Seriously, enjoy the product that you unload your Swiss accounts into and don't worry, because nothing is perfect, especially first runs.



If one of our cummins broke a push rod though, it could be fixed in a reasonable amount of time, put back into service, with more horsepower, in many different applications with few adaptors, that is a 100,000 mile guarantee in itself

I like this one from the Diesel Page, "If it was a Dodge motor everyone would be bidding it sky high. That to me would mean that there is a huge demand for replacement motors. Not having a second hand market for one little part is a good thing. "



I assume the little part he is referring to is the engine.

I've heard that the Cummins ISB just falls appart after about 400,000 miles. What a POS!

Read the last issue of the TDR and learn about what a the CTD that only has 1. 15 million miles and all the problems he has encountered.



Like you said; What a piece of crap motor we have.



Maybe one of the "TDR thugs" can bid on it? Any body interested in a Duramax/Ram combo? (DuraDodge)?



It would make for an interesting pull off with the Cummins powered Chevy!

It might fit in a 1500 series Ram, it's about the same frame strength, as a Chevy 2500, right?

By the same token, though, let me ask you guys this: Who would want to put a Honda engine into a Harley-Davidson?

My main gripe is I have owned Isuzu all-aluminum engines in the past, and neither engine was able to keep a head gasket on past 65,000 miles. This Duramax engine is built by Isuzu.

An old family friend of mine, C. J. Rayburn of Whiteland, Indiana, who is famous in the world of dirt track stock car racing, once tried running an all-aluminum Buick V-8 (the one on which the British Leyland's Land Rover engine was based) in his LateModel dirt race car. He could not keep the heads on it either, despite all his access to the best engineering & mechanics...

Many people, me included, are big Chevy fans when it comes to speed sports, I've owned my share of Corvettes and Camaros and would buy one again. BUT... . whoever makes these decisions about the trucks at GM, they have their head in the sand. I'd be one of those names on a two-year waiting list to buy the new Chevy diesel, had they gone with a Caterpillar or John Deere diesel engine...
