Powerstroke or Cummins? (Lively discussion on a tractor site)

I have lost push rods before in my many crap box cars and only changed the rod and rocker. Why change the motor for a simple problem?

I noticed quite awhile back that it seems like 50% of the guys that post over there seem to work for GM. All I can say is, I wish they (GM) would at least spring for a site that doesn't load so s-l-o-w :p

I followed the thread to The Diesel Page and was quite dissapointed. I have never posted in TDR before but have been a member for some two years. I have read the magazines from cover to cover and read the posts in here. I have a great respect for Steve as I think his posts are intelligent and truthful. I am a diesel tech (mehanic) for Kenworth so I see and work on lots of diesel engines, namely Cummins, Cat and Detroit. Have done work on various transmissions such as Fuller and Arvin Meritor (formerly Rockwell). I have a 2000 2500 CTD with over 40,000k. I have had no trouble so far. A kind of rundown. 275 HP injectors and the HO 505 ECM. It runs extremly well. Almost all the miles have had trailer. 38ft Jayco, 27ft Sandpiper and 14ft Haulmark with a lot of stuff in it, weighs about 7500 lbs.

I guess this is sort of an introduction for myself. I enjoy the TDR very much. Everyone keep up the good work and posts.

kcjayco,

"I followed the thread to The Diesel Page and was quite dissapointed"

What were you dissappointed about?

(btw, welcome out from the lurking mode, sounds as if you have a wealth of knowledge to help with)

As for me, I'm a 25year shade tree mechanic, with more years of blowing up Mosfets and transistors for a living. My TDRam is my 1st oil burner.

About the DM thread:

I tried to reply on the DM page, but couldnt cause I'm not "registered"... I thought I saw somewhere that someone wrote that you didnt need to "join" to post... so any who how I registered to add my normaly wordy reply... and am waiting for persmission from the "moderator".

I'm only doing it since I was mentioned. I figured since they're explaining themselves, I should too. Steve is doing a fine job on his own, so I'm not doing it for back up for Steve,,, but as myself , a truck buyer... who happened to have choosen a Dodge.

It'll be a week this weekend since I registered to post on the Cheby site, soo I could reply to their comments they made on the Duradud forum about my posting here on TDR... .

It seems I'm not getting approved by their moderator to have access... ??

So I guess it's not as free as they say it is?

Steve - "the not so Saint" - I guess your one of the honored few non-duradud people that are allowed to post there... your soo lucky... .

I'll give it to this weekend, and then I'll post my reply right here... . since we know "D-max man" and party are reading this thread anyway. Hi guys! :p

What could possibly interest them over here? It's a Dodge and Cummins only here anyway. I haven't seen any real bashing of Chevy or Ford here. I am very happy with my Dodge Cummins combo. I test drove everything when I purchased this one. I had a PSD for about six months or so, traded it for this one. What interested me the most was what was said about a S/N. It was an advertisement, they could just call the guy and ask for the S/N. Don't see the big deal about all this S/N stuff, erverytime something is said about a Duramax. I saw two with bent frames and mentioned it in PU.com, I'll never do anything like that again. I was surrounded by very unfriendly people. They said it didn't happen and what not. I saw what I saw period. This is my site and I think I'll stay here. At least they'll have to pay to shoot at me!

kcjayco,

The running bit is that anytime someone says they know someone with a problem Duradud, those on the DM site ask for either the dealership or the S/N of the truck, "and it shuts them up so there must not have been a problem"...

ya I want a factory rep like that dealing with the quality of my product... another reason I'm happy that I didnt get a cheby.

Here on TDR we suggest solutions, not question whether or not the complaint it real.

It's also rumored that certain posts disappear on the DM site. And since there's never an explaination why a post disappeared, everyone thinks it's because the GM folks are trying to control bad press. . I had posted a link to one such thread where a member had asked why his thread asking about a certain problem was deleted... he never did get an answer last I read. . so it's not a rumor, there was one documented case which I posted the link here on TDR for all to read.

At least GM knows where to put maxipad motors, trash pile instead of trying to rebuild. Guess even GM figured out you cant rebuild junk. Isnt there a song titled "... living in denial"? Must ahve been written by a maxipad owner.
