I hope Dodge got a better torque wrench

tow mirrors

I have to replace the passenger mirror again... The dealer installed a new one about a year ago after the first one just fell out. Now the second one is loose and wont stay in position.

My 1st set were perfect except for the spray paint accident in Wyoming :( (street spraying crew)

This set started out ok, but now both are flop ass to the point of using cardboard wedges to keep them in place

Hey, guy's have you ever tore one apart to see whats the problem. I got a buddy that has a 99 with the other mirrors and some one give him a set of the tow type mirrors, but one was real loose. We figured it had to be something simple causing all the failure right. Well, this is what we found out. First of all you have to bust the mirror out, and behind it is a stud with a star shaped keeper on it that puts pressure against a Teflon looking half of a ball like thing, and it sets against the part that holds the mirror which allows it to swivel. What I done was, I pulled the keeper out and the ball thing. I took some rough sandpaper and rough the ball backing up, and the inner socket that the ball sets in. Next take the keeper and slightly bend the ears that press against the stud, which sticks through the center that holds it all together. I then assembled all the parts back in reverse order using a large socket to tap the star shaped keeper down onto the plastic stud. I carefully tapped on it until there was enough pressure to tighten the mirrors swivel carrier. I then stopped by the local glass shop and picked up a mirror and glued it back in place. The mirror cost me 15. 00, Hope this helps anyone that is out of warranty, and using cardboard wedges. It worked for me and is actually tighter than the other one. Eric

my 99 has always had a vibrating mirror problem... dealer replaced the driver side at 5K but they still vibrate sooo bad, i can not tell if it is a truck or a car behind me... if i boost the tire pressure to 80 psi when carring a load, it gets worse..... Dodge dealer said there is a tech bulletin on this that says if you have a "bug guard", it disrupts the airflow and causes the mirrors to vibrate... BS... my mirrors vibrated long before i ever put on a bug shield... . also the fold down cup holder will vibrate so badly that a can drink will vibrate out an amazing amount of soft drink onto the cup holder... we buy bottles when we travel... my Ford or Chev does not vibrate like that... all the tires are kept rotated and balanced... this has been since day one... . i love my dodge but darn, why can't they fix the small stuff... ... .
