2001. 5 CTD 4x4 auto 135k miles making loud clacking noise near back of motor. I noticed that the rear upper and lower exhaust manifold bolt fell out. No oil in radiator, oil looks fine, and nothing odd looking coming out the exhaust. HELP!!

its prolly exhaust gasses leaking out where there is no bolts. i had headers on a couple of trucks and if they loosened up, it would start a loud ticking sound.

If there is a hole in a piston on a stock engine, it is likely the piston cooling jet is plugged or fell out.

Well the oil filter - not fram - took a dump - clogged cooling jet. Bone stock truck never had a performance nothing done to it.

And would you mind telling us want brand the oil filter was? Are they (the oil filter company) going to pay the cost to repair. I heard FRAM bought a few CTDs. SNOKING

I buy napa oil filters..... Is that a good filter? Also use mobil 1 oil. has been running good, maybe i should change the filter after hearing this. Rick

Fleetguard all the way. Just call Geno's they will UPS them to you. Cheaper than the fuel to go pick up someone else's. SNOKING

09-004-01 All Engine lubricant.

This bulletin involves 1989-2001 Ram trucks equipped with the 5. 9L Cummins diesel engines. This bulletin discusses the recommended oil filters for use with Cummins 5. 9L diesel engine.

Part No Manufacturer

05016547AC Mopar

LF3894 Fleetguard Stratapore

LF3552 Fleetguard Microglass

LF3959 Fleetguard Cellulose

3937695 Cummins Cellulose

FL896 MotorCraft Cellulose

L45335 Purolator Cellulose

PF1070 AC Delco Cellulose

The information only bulletin was issued to alert the field to problems caused by aftermarket oil filter. For example, neoprene compounds used internally in the manufacture of oil filters not recommended by DaimlerChrysler may seperate from the filter, lodge in the piston cooling nozzle, and cause the engine to fail. THIS IS NOT AN ENGINE DEFECT.
