There has been alot of discussion on this in the past. My 01 has a born on date of 9/01. I was told it is a 01. 5 due to the option package that came standard on the truck that just a few months before had to be special ordered. The shift on the fly diff. , and the all wheel antilock disc brakes and the 6 speed standard transmission. I know that when I ordered my truck the line was halted in St. Louis for retooling and so it was delayed for a couple of weeks. My dealer called me and we reordered with the new option package. Do a search and you so find out more.

The rear disc brakes came on all 2001. 5 trucks. There were 6 speeds in trucks starting in 2000 if I remember right.

They changed the front brake lines in 2002, removed the hood liner, and rear wheel well liners as well.

Usually trucks built in Sept. , Oct. Nov. & Dec are considered to the next years model. Example: Sept. 2001 would actually be a 2002 model year truck.

Does it have the front Axle CAD? If it have a 2001 model year and was built in July 2001, it is what we call the 2001. 5 because of the rear disc brakes. That also is right about when they put the 7 year / 100K warranty back on. Mine was built in May 01 and sold to me in June 01 with 3/36 warranty. Take it to a dealer and ask them to pull a VIP report of you.

01. 5 has rear discs, and i believe the input shaft on the nv5600 was upgraded and is larger than the previous 6 speeds

I think the 01. 5 -02 didn't have the insulation underneath the hood for noise control.

Wrong again, my May 2001 build Taco 2001. 5 has the hood insulation and rear wheel liners. It is the 2002's that lost those things. So as you can see the 2001. 5 is best of breed. 4 wheel Disc, CAD, insulation, wheel liners etc etc. Rear cap holders? Mine is a std cab, what rear seat cap holders, what rear seat?????

On the 2001's the rear wheel liners were standard on 4X4's only. I had to buy mine for the tune of 200$ afterwards. I just assumed they'd come with it!

Mine is an 01. 5, no hood liner, wheel well splash guards, rear disks, and an 01 map sensor... . that should tell you. If you have a flat map or not... ... ... . mine was built July 01. One of us is wrong and its not me... ... ... . :-laf.

Just maybe the plant that built is has something to do with what was or was not installed. SNOKING
You're likely right. This exact thought was tossed around here long ago, with the suggestion that various assembly points used up existing inventory during the change to "2001. 5".
