I was looking at some new 2001 2500's 4x4's today and I have a few questions. Is the overdrive ratio in the 5 and 6 spd the same? Have some of the brake pull problems been fixed for 2001? Are there any little problems that one should be aware of on the 2001? Thanks in advance.

Here's a comparison between the 5 & 6 speed:

NV4500 5-speed:

1st: 5. 61:1
2nd: 3. 04:1
3rd: 1. 67:1
4th: 1. 00:1
5th: 0. 75:1
Rev: 5. 04:1

Lubricant: 8 pts of Mopar manual trans lubricant, P/N 4874459.

Clutch housing: aluminum
Trans case: cast iron

NV5600 6-speed:

1st: 5. 63:1
2nd: 3. 38:1
3rd: 2. 04:1
4th: 1. 39:1
5th: 1. 00:1
6th: 0. 73:1
Rev: 5. 63:1

Lubricant: 9. 5 pts of Mopar manual trans lubricant, P/N 4874464.

Clutch housing: aluminum
Trans case: cast iron

***2001 ETH model trucks have a 1 3/8" input shapt, as opposed to 1 1/4" for '99-'00 6-speeds.

As to the brake pull question, you may want to do a search on it, as it has been a lingering issue. I have not experienced any of the brake pull problems on my 2001 ETH, or on my 1998. 5 automatic. The latest version of the Ram has 4-wheel disc brakes, as opposed to rear drums.

Hope this helps! #ad

Not sure about the final ratio but I know of a fellow Rammer with the 3. 55 rears. He was well over 100mph and no where near the engine redline. No brake pull as well. BTW,it wasnt me.

Give some thought regarding rear end ratio if you are going to increase tire size. If you are going to buy a bolt action trannie, the 6 speed is the choice. The ETH/DEE combo has the best resale in our area. Big Motor/Big Trannie. Argggggggggggg.
