2001 Ram Recall - Alternator to PDC

Anyone have any more info on the following recall notice. I will check mine out in the daylight. Sounds like something that we can do without seeing the dealer at least!





DaimlerChrysler Corporation Has Recalled 2001 Dodge Truck Ram

Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall affecting the 2001 Dodge Truck Ram.



Potential Number of Units Affected: 268740



Manufactured: 01/2000 - 08/2000



Defect Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PICKUP TRUCKS. THE ALTERNATOR WIRE CONNECTION TO THE POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER (PDC) CAN LOOSEN. THIS COULD CAUSE A VEHICLE FIRE.



Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE INSTALLATION OF THE ALTERNATOR WIRE CONNECTION TO THE PDC AND IF NECESSARY, REPOSITION THE WIRE SO THAT THE CRIMP CONNECTION WILL FACE UPWARD AND TIGHTEN THE FASTENER TO THE CORRECT TORQUE SETTING. DAIMLERCHRYSLER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED NHTSA WITH AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

Reality check or sanity bypass?

Before we start a mad panic David, is there any supporting information like the VIN start # and end # available, so we can all tell at a glance, whether or not we've been selected by DC for special attention.....

I think that the manufactured date is almost as good as a VIN range (01/2000 - 08/2000). Tag your it! You don't expect DC to keep those kind of records do you? I also realize what a hassle it is going to be for you to come down off those slopes and pop the hood for a peek. :{

David, unfortunately the slopes are a fast, fading memory at this time... ... Maybe I can get a quick fix at Easter in the French alps when I return for a short period back to Europe? In the meantime, I am now getting acquainted with weather conditions at the other end of the spectrum just a few degrees north of the equator in South East Asia and with some luck, I should be able to return to Pulau Sipadan once more - a little bit of scubadiving heaven off the coast of East Malaysia, which gets the Jacques Cousteau 5 star seal of approval and is now back in business, big time with the Malaysian Coastguard keeping the wandering Philipino pirates/kidnappers away from this patch of the South China Seas.
