Folks, The May 2001 issue of Trailer Life page 95 states, "DC is recalling 480 (2001) Dodge Ram full-size pickups on certain Quad Cab trucks, the upper control arms attached with cadmium-coated nuts can cause the bolts to stretch due to the application of a higher-than-specified clamp load. Breakage of the upper control arm fasteners could cause the axle to rotate forward under braking conditions. This rotation could twist the steering linkage and possibly separate the brake lines. Dealers will replace the upper control arm bolts and nuts. NHTSA Recall No. 00V307/DaimlerChrysler Recall No. 955. "

Now all we have to figure out is where are the "lucky" 480 Rams? Anyone hear about this recall?

Hi Shelby,
I'm still digging for more info but when
did you take delivery? My 2001. 5 was delivered on 9/16 but I think my build date was 8/23/00. 480 vehicles are affected, hopefully yours won't be one of them. I'll
let you know if I learn more... .

Just got back from the NHTSA site http://www.nhtsa. dot.gov/nhtsa/announce/press/pressdisplay. dbm?year=2001&filenam e=pr06-01.html
Here is the recall AND an 800#

DaimlerChrysler Corporation

Models: Dodge Ram Year: 2001

Number Involved: 480

Dates of Manufacture: <font color=blue> September 2000 <font color=black>

Defect: On certain quad cab pickup trucks, the upper control arms attached with cadmium coated nuts can cause
the bolts to stretch due to the application of a higher than specified clamp load. Breakage of the upper control arm
fasteners could cause the axle to rotate forward under braking conditions. This rotation could twist the steering linkage
and possibly separate the brake lines.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the upper control arm bolts and nuts. Owner notification began Oct. 30, 2000. Owners
who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact DaimlerChrysler at 1-800-992-1997.

Just got off the #800 line with DC. Was checking my VIN to see if it was affected because it was built September 8th, 2000. They said that the 480 vehicles affected by the DC Recall # 955 were built between 7/15 and 7/19 - 2000.

I just got off the phone with the 800# and the gave the fella my VIN and he checked his system and after a while he came back and told me that the recall 955 only concerns trucks with a "J" as there 11th charactor of the VIN.
My truck has a "G" so I am good to go.
Hope this helps.
See Ya

I just got off the phone with the 800#, Matt in cust care told me he knew nothing of a Quad Cab recall #ad

I asked him to check on recall #955 because my VIN 8th character is a "J". He said the only recall that my VIN has had is the owners manual update for the kiddie seat attachment documentation.
Called back and spoke to Lenore, she informed me that only certain VINs built in certain plants had the #955 recall. They will give out very little information on the recall because they seem to read from a script ONLY. At least Lenore found the #955 recall but continued to repeat the phrase "All recalls are VIN specific and if you haven't been notified, the recall does NOT apply to your vehicle sir" Guess they are not allowed to actually 'talk' to us. #ad
