Can anybody else comment on this? Maybe someone who is using the wheels. This question has come up several times and the point about hub centered v. lug centered comes up and then the thread dies. I know that there is more to the story because the aftermarket does not make a significant effort to identify hub centered v. lug centered, and there are a lot of people that are running 2nd gen wheels on 1st gen trucks.
The 1st gen uses a 1/2" lug and the 2nd gen uses a 9/16". The lugs all have a taper to them so they will self center in the hole if tightened properly.
The studs on our first gens are smaller. The correct nut has a different taper to work with the second gen wheels. I got a set of chrome aftermarket nuts to make it look better because the hub caps won’t fit without some tinkering.
Thanks. I see 2nd Gen wheels for sale every once in a while and have thought about picking up a set. I'd like a set of Alcoas but that money thing keeps getting in the way.....
Is the backspacing the same between the 1st and 2nd Gen wheels?
I seem to remember that there was a change in the backspacing of the 2nd Gen wheels around 2001? Does anyone know what the back spacing was before and after the change and how that would affect 1st Gen fitment?
I bought these and now I,m going to try to fit them on my first gen. These are oem 16x8 aluminum wheels off a 2002. Retail is $382!!!! Part # 52106367AA.
Questions: They fit and look great on the rear but I would like to use the oem hub caps. Any suggestions? The 2002 lug nuts are 9/16" and 1st gens are 1/2".
They do not fit on the front. They hit on the tie rod end and caliper. If they were 1" narrower they would work. I'm thinking of replacing the studs with longer ones (1-1/2" longer) if this is possible then adding a spacer.
Does anyone know if Dodge or the aftermarket make longer wheel studs for these?
What would be ideal would be to convert to larger (9/16) and longer studs then I could use the oem hub caps.
