I haven't took a count, but it seems as though the most truck problems on this forum involve a 2001.

Is this my imagination??? Is 2001 the first year to reflect German management??

Jim

It could be the large number of 2001 that were built. They swithced from the 2000 to the 2001 model year on Jan 1 2000 in all pickups due to some CAFE numers that also involved the PT cruiser. That meant the made the 2000 model year for 6 months July 99 to Dec 31 99, and they made the 2001 model for 18 months Jan 1 00 to June 01. I think that there are some problems that have been fixed or improved ( I do not hear as many fifth gear nut problems on 00 and up) and other problems they have neither helped or hurt ( lift pumps and track bar comes to mind)

The concern I have is the amount of development money that is being spent seems to be much lower. The 03 had a lot of the development that was completed over the last 4 to 6 years. It was allready in the can before the Germans realy started managing DC. That means we may not be able to keep up with the "Jones'" in the 2005 or 2006 model year becuse of less product development.

I suspect that the newer truck owners are more likely to be involved with the TDR, therefore more reported problems.

My 2001 has been the best-built, most trouble-free vehicle I've ever owned. Going on two years and I've not had it back to the dealer for anything!

The 01's got a large batch of bad lift pumps, and the clocksprings had a recall on them. And then there's the oil gauge sender problem. I would say they had their share of problems. :)

01 problems

My truck is an 01. 5. Not too many miles (13k). I've had the lift pump replaced at 10k but other than that my truck runs strong and I love it. Dealer replaced the pump no problem, and the new one is strong. I'm happy

Life is good, go fast and live on the edge.

Happy trails to ya

Bill

01 Problems

21K as I came home last night from a bizz trip and NO Problems.

I'm very anal and add 8 ozs of PS to each fillup. Oil & filter every 3. 2k miles. I clean the sub chassis with a tooth brush and hand wipe the engine compartment. This truck is cleaner than the day I picked it up with 4 miles on it.

YEA I know... ... ..... it's hard to be this cool:cool:

My problems with my 2001 are real. And I'm not the only one. Still, some of it might be the miles I've put on it. It has 75,000 on it right now.

The steering gear box, steering pump, track bar, ball joints are all in the process of being replaced.

The brake pads on the front wore out at 11,000 miles. The U-joints on the rear driveshaft went out at 45,000 miles.

The Sport grille (black) had big flecks of paint coming off it less than 10 months after I bought the truck. It was replaced under warranty.

The Infinity CD player crapped out and isn't working. Wasn't used all that much, either !

I'm on my fourth lift pump. The original lift pump was dead long before I found it.

I'm surprised my injection pump has survived as long as it has.

Hopefully, it'll be a truck worth keeping, if the replacement steering parts prove to be quality items. The rest of the truck satisfies me.

I'm glad a lot of you are having good luck with your trucks. No, really, I am ! I suspect those of us with truck problems are not

a majority, but there's enough of us out there that we can see a few of these trucks got some defective parts in the mix.

Who supplies the track bars and Saginaw steering gears to Dodge? I'd like to cram the removed parts up someone's ether regions, preferably the plant manager at the plant that made these junk parts... ...

01 problems.

I hate to say it but I am a little disappointed with my 01,at 41k replaced track bar,now at 47k the lift pump is bad, dont know how long its been bad just installed gauges 2 days ago,at less than a month old back window was leaking. I still like the truck and love driving it. I know they are totaly different vehicles but I wish I could get the same service from my truck as I have from my 86 monte carlo SS,384,000 and still going strong, rebuilt front end at 324,000,it still has the original u-joints,he!! of a car!!

I guess that means my 2000 is a collectors limited edition model

I love my '01. The fuel filter heater had an o ring that caused a leak, and it was a problem getting the dealer to recognize I knew anything. But all and all this has been a great truck. I've got 42K miles on it and no lift pump problems yet. If I changed it every 40K that would be better than my GMC deisel that I had to replace one every 30K, guaranteed. Oh by the way they still have the same pump in the same place so. . ??? The GMC had the paint go and they wouldn't back it so I had to pay out of pocket. The paint on this truck is 10x's better. I expected a lot out of the engine and haven't been disappointed. I don't think
the '01 is any more of a problem than others. I think TDR members keep on top of things better and therefore we have become aware of more problems, even if they don't affect us each and every time. If you want to go for a GM or Ford, good luck. I'd buy another one of these Dodges again. Just to put that into prespective, I can get a GM truck for a price cheaper than the dealer or their employees, and its a hell of a lot cheaper than I could do with the Dodge. Great truck and great engine, no regrets.
Oo.

Ive heard that if you have an auto, the 2000 is the best year to have, stronger front end,but not cheapened up as much on the details, and most importantly,no defuelling between shifts like the 01's,and you get an HX35,not the tiny HY. I'd gladly take an 01,my dad;s is tight, solid, and has been perfect.

My 01 has almost 26,000 miles. It has had the oil sender reflash and had the lift pump replaced just last week. It does have oil seepage between the transfer case and transmission which the dealer refuses to do anything about. Other than that its been trouble free. BTW,I have the service manual on order since its been a PITA to get what warranty work done that needed to be done.

I have owned a 94, 96, 98. 5 and now a 2001 by far this truck has had less problems then the other three, I am currently at 41,000 miles. Yes I am on my third lift pump counting the OEM. I have been experiencing a hard miss at idle but I think that was due to a bad load of fuel and a faulty seal on the fuel filter. One third of my miles are towing a 12k 5er. Other than that the truck has been great!

Mike

The only problem the truck has is a leaky T-case. Been that way since I bought it. Its been fixed twice:) . Lift pump has been changed twice too. Truck has 51,000

Zip 4 problems

Mine just turned 87,000 miles - and ZIPPO Problemo---- I just returned from driving to Denver and back, put almost 3000 miles on her in 6 days - man does she perform in the mountains - sure can tell when the gasers are running out of air. Had my front end checked, and she's as tight as can be.
