I have had very few problem and they have been nothing new to my dodge experience. Seized front brake caliper at 18k or so. Track bar and steering gear at 22k and starting to loosen up again.



I am on my stock lift pump at 36k.



The problems are exactly the same as I had on my 98 gasser.



I did have a south bend clutch put in the other day and was supprised to see that the stock one was in very good condition although it did have heat marks from slipping. On a stock truck it could have gone well over 100k with the amount of material that was left. All and all I am happy with the truck and knew its down falls before I bought it.

I have an 01 now just over 2 years old. No real problem to date. Just found out the trackbar is shot. No big deal, just costly. 50K miles all original so far including tires. I also knew about the problems with Dodges, but I also did the research on Fords for six month prior to ordering. This forum will make you paranoid, I know it has me, especially regarding lift pump and consequential damage to injection pump. Went to dealer the other day to have it checked. They ordered new lift pump without doing a pressure check. Go figure.

Overall I am extremely happy with the truck. Anyone who buys a heavy duty vehicle like this and expects reliability of a Toyata is unreasonable, sure it would be nice, and it can be done. But then you could not afford to purchase one of these beasts.

Like I have said before, I purchased mine because it was cheaper than a girlfriend and I hear no whining or nagging from it, although my wife does make up for that at times. I would not trade either one for a different model.



By the way you guys are too hard on the German management. They do a hell of a job, just look at a Mercedes, BMW or Audi/VW. They are the brands with built in quality that the Japanese emulate. Yes, as you can tell I am a first generation German immigrant US citizen and damn proud of both.

I have to agree with the Kraut67. Every time the Japs think that they did something good, they compare their car with one of the extraordinary cars from Germany. Personally I was pleased when Chrysler merged.

31. 6 K and no real problems to date knock on wood. Clock Spring went first week I had the truck and again later but cannot remember mileage don't have my log handy. Got my recall notice on clock spring and before that week out the spring went go figure but replaced again under recall free no problem. Lets see this July will be 2 years I have had the truck and very happy with it.

Ok. I'll ask again without the sarcasm. What is a clockspring? Someone please answer as the curiosity is killing me!

I can give you a basic defintion. The clock spring is a component of your steering column that some how maintains the electrical connections to your steering wheel mounted controls and air bag. It was a factory recall as they were breaking. I never had a problem but did have it replaced after I got the recall notice. Supposedly they can cause the air bag to go off when they break but I have never heard of it actually happening.

mberry, sorry I though someone would jump on that question and I have not been back to this thread, anyway the clockspring is wiring in the steering colum that goes to the airbags and other stuff. And they were breaking during turning etc. If you had one of the problem ones you should have goten a recall notice, you might check with your dealer just to be sure.

2001 TRUCK TROUBLE

Had mine since feb 01 only real problem speedometer cluster failed but it took 2 months to the day to get a replacement, other than that it has been great!

Yes that is waht it is a device that sorta looks like a clock spring in the steering column that elctrically connects to steering will for the stuff like cruse control and stuff in it. It sorta winds up and unwinds as the steering wheel turns.



Don't think I heard of it breaking causing air bags to inflate but I think the big concern is they won't operate at all if you have an accident.

2001.5 Problems

My 2001. 5 has had few problems, but I still love it. It has only 40,000 miles on so is is not even broken in yet.



I've had to replace only the AC condenser, heater core, freeze plugs on the head, two sets of tires, replaced multiple tie rods, Pitman arm replaced 2x, and a rim that split in two:{. I have a transmission that has horriable syncros between all gears, but according to dodge, it is normal for a transmission to grind between gears. There have been minor electrical problems (enough to burn up 1 ecu). The truck eats lightbulbs. Granted, I do rough driving, but the truck handles all I can throw at it. It is better than my last truck.



In my 99, I went through 2 engines and the third one was shot when I got rid of it. Not bad to go through 3 engines in less than 30,000 miles. This truck also had over $2,000 in warranted brake repairs.



All this said, I love my truck like a woman, and like a woman, she likes to spend my money

Ok. Thanks everyone! Now I know what everyone is talking about. I have a 2002 and haven't had it long enough to notice any problems other than the rear tires are wearing out quickly. Only 7100 miles on it so far. Thanks again!

So far. . yes. It hasn't been cold and the 2-3 shift is easy to miss. I expect that because the transmission is all but new.



It's getting better though very quickly. I'm gonna wait about 10k and swap out the fluid for Amsoil.
