2002 24v died under power. VP44 was fix. Thanks!

UPDATE New VP44 resolved problem.

Had to get in front of a chevy gasser from a red light today. It took off nice and after I merged in front of the Chevy it stumbled briefly and went dead.

I was low on fuel but not out. I have gauges that show ability to get 12 psi. with key bump. This pump has 5k on it and is a little more than a year old.

Crank and crank and no wetness at cracked injectors. Maybe a fuel solenoid? About 3 minutes of cranking total with no wetness.

No obdII codes either.

I may put on the battery tender and crank it some more but am hoping I don't have to do another pump at 1200 clams.

ANY IDEAS???????

I'll check back on Thursday a. m. EST. PS I am in Bear,Delaware if that matters.

Thanks JR

I am afraid your injector pump just died and in a big way. If you have fuel flow to IP and no fuel flow to injectors usually means dead injector pump

Not even a chance of it being a fuel solenoid or a fuse?

dslmacdown>Thanks for the response. I had that thought but just can't stomach it. Do you think a brief air-bubble in the system could have killed it? It was cool out and I had been just puttin around until then.

No, fuel solenoid is inside the pump and if it craps you have to replace pump. You could check the fuses and relays. If it was a air bubble your should have been able to bleed it easily, but no fuel at injector lines after cranking for a few minutes = dead VP44. Sorry, I have heard of a lot of pumps dieing in this manner, running one second and the next not. :{ :( :{ :(

crack lines 1 & 3 up at the valve cover. if there is fuel up there you just have air that needs to bleed out.

crank crank crank dry. Pump is still under warranty (1 yr) so I'll rip it out and replace it for a new one. Thanks fellas!

Mine died at about 75% pedal (Stock Motor). Dead with only a P1693 code. Shop guy put on his scanner that speaks "Cummins" and told me it was a seized rotor :{ New pump been just fine since  moose00

Pull any codes you can, with the key in the ignition, turn it on and off quickly 3 times without bumping the starter. The codes will appear where your odometer reads the mileage.

Let us know what codes, if any, there are.

--- no codes ---- clean bill of health. I am going to revisited an air purge in 15 minutes and crank a bit. I'll let you know what I find. THANKS

Mine did that a while back with less than a quarter tank showing. I thought it was the fuel pump but after bleeding the VP and two injectors it started but not easily, I had to cycle the lift pump a lot and crank for 15 minutes total, not all at once. It ran but pressure was low so I replaced the LP and it is fine now but I always wondered if I just ran out of fuel and the guage is off. I had never been that low and I'm not going to let it go below a quarter from now on. I had always heard how hard it was to start a diesel when it ran out and I believe it now, it isn't something you want to do more than once. I hope that is all if it with yours.

Gotta plug a great pump dealer.

Hoffman's Diesel Injection Service.

Frazier Road, Newark, DE

Near the old Woodside Inn (My uncle used to own it for years)

I called and explained what happened . He says " Better get down here and get one. . We'll get the warranty ironed out Monday. I closin soon. "

I went down he handed me a pump and said drop off the core Monday along with a "have a nice weekend"

That's what local business has over the internet. Hope it is an easy warranty claim.
