Awwww Man... . Sell your 5 'er... . but DON"T sell your TRUCK!

Sell the kids... Sell the wife... but don't sell your Dodge/Cummins! :D

Isn't that the way things go! We had been looking since last September for a used Artic Fox 27-5L. Found one 3 weeks ago in Pasco,Wash but were beaten to it by another buyer. Finally gave up the search 9 days ago and bought the Cardinal.

Wish I had of known, Ken... ... . you would have had a buyer!

Gary

Sorry to hear of your loss Ken, that just plain old sucks! I wish I could swing the wife into it though! She really liked the Fox, just couldn't raise the necessary cash! Hope things improve for you. . before its time to sell the truck... ... ... ...

Thanks for the comments. As I mentioned in the Dakota thread in the "other" forum, the reason for selling the 5er and truck is not just because of the cost. We are selling our townhouse also, and have been looking for places to buy. I would like to get a place that I could keep the camper on-site, but that's not too easy to do in a metro area like Denver. The storage issue is just getting to be too much of an issue for me.

There are lots of RV dealers going out of business, one around here is Dan Gamel RV. Some of his stuff is at a 50% loss. Might check them out.

Northwood Mfg in LaGrande, OR. told me that many Arctic Fox dealers have gone out of business including Pinehurst RV in Idaho where we purchased our Arctic Fox 5er.

well, for all the unfortunate ones that have Wives that are in control, its not true that,

Its cheaper to keeper.

Actually, the Tiffin that I have my eye on is at Le Mesa in Davis CA. The model that I'm looking at is an Allegro 35QBA, four slides, bunks, 4 TVs, yada, yada, yada...

I like the idea of bunks as it is very efficient with space, but looking at the floor plan of this model, it looks like the bunks are too close to the master bed.

Close family? :)

This Tiffin dealer is closing in a couple of months, might be a deal here if you don't mind the drive... .

Looks like it is the same company, just a different location. I wonder if all will be closing or just the one in San Bernardino.

Just got my answer looking at their press releases Class A and C MotorHomes. Both the San Bernardino and the Davis location will be closing. Sad given the folks that will be impacted at those locations.

Here is the press release:

Press Release - Jul 15, 2008

La Mesa RV Center Plans Closure Of Davis and San Bernardino, California Operations

San Diego- La Mesa RV Center, Inc announces an immediate inventory liquidation of their operations in Davis and San Bernardino, California that will result in the closure of these facilities in the fourth quarter of 2008. All new branded motorhomes from Winnebago, Tiffin and Newmar that are in inventory at each store as well as an immense selection of certified pre-owned motorhomes have been drastically discounted for immediate sale.

The continued economic downturn that has been prompted by the ongoing mortgage and financial crisis as well as the increase in gasoline and diesel prices have had a significantly negative impact on the recreational vehicle business nationwide. Both of the locations being liquidated have experienced a dramatic reduction in customer traffic and sales during the first half of 2008.

Jim Kimbrell, CEO of La Mesa RV Center, stated that “the recreational vehicle industry will see a strong turnaround when economic stability returns. Americans have a love affair with the RV lifestyle and they will continue to turn to the great outdoors to enjoy this beautiful country. ”

A recent study published by PFK Consulting shows that despite record-breaking fuel prices, the typical RV trip remains the least expensive type of vacation.

La Mesa RV remains committed to the industry and believes that the restructuring plan is a prudent, measured response to current industry sales trends. The company will continue to operate in San Diego, California; Mesa, Tucson, Quartzsite and Yuma, Arizona as well as in Sanford, Florida.

La Mesa RV Center was founded in 1972 by Jim Kimbrell in a suburb of San Diego known as La Mesa, California. The company will continue to offer a vast assortment of certified pre-owned motorhomes at its remaining facilities as well as representing new brands from Winnebago and Tiffin Motorhomes.

I spoke with someone at the Tucson office of La Mesa about the closings. They operate the chain of outlets pretty much as a single store with branches. They move inventory around all the time. Summer is the busy season in CA, so they are doing clearance sales in Davis and San Bernardino. At the end of the CA season, they plan to close those facilities and move the inventory to AZ for the winter season. They plan to continue to pay for their marketing rights in the CA markets, and expect to reopen in the Davis area next year at a better location.

As to the bunk location, since we are empty nesters, we won't have anyone staying with us very often, but would like the additional sleeping space for the kids or grandkid(s) when we see them. When alone, we can use the bunks as storage space.

Any comments about the Freightliner FRED chassis would be appreciated. I'm hopping that the Cummins 6. 7L doesn't have the active regeneration problems that they RAM has had as the MH will always be running a full load and passive regeneration should do the job most of the time. Fuel economy reports of around 10 MPH are pretty common.

Ken,

This is just speculation on my part but I would imagine that the 6. 7 in the MH would be about the same as in the C&C Dodge application and not the pickup version. I don't mean the engine itself would be different, more like the software that runs it just as they are different between the two Dodge's.

Good luck and best wishes.
