I have a chance to upgrade from my 2002 1 ton 6 speed HO dually to the 2003 1 ton 6 speed HO dually. For the guys who have done this, what are your impressions was it worth it? I also tow a 9k trailer is there a real improvement. I'm really struggling with this decision thanks for the help.

Maybe I can help a little. I just upgraded to an'03 from my '02. Same scenario as yours. They delivered my truck to my lot at 6:30 last friday evening. It had been a horrible week. I was tired. I ached. I drove the truck home and did'nt like it. Slept that night got up and drove the truck to church the next day. Hey! This is NICE! WOW, even with less than a hundred miles on it this thing will RUN for a stock truck.

In retrospect, this animal is SO differant than my '00, '01, '02 that being a creature of habit, it took an hour or so to be able to be objective.

My only concern is I ordered the 3:73s instead of the 4:10s and until I hook it up and haul a BIG 5er with it I just won't know.

Good luck!

Need to add: It drives like a car, it rides like a car and it is quieter than a church mouse. It is totally differant than any Dodge you have ever driven.

When I sent it down to the hitch shop to have my 5th wheel installed, the tech was cussing the truck for all he was worth. I finally had to tell to go curse his own truck that this one was mine and as soon as he was done I would pray over it to get all that mess off it that he put on it. When he calmed down he said he had never seen a frame and under carraige as built as this one. It is a JOB to mount a hitch in the new trucks!

I think you'll be happy with your 3. 73s. I would not want anything lower, but I don't tow heavy. But when you can drive at 35 mph in 6th gear and take off easy without downshifting, that tells me you'll have enough power.

My personal feeling is the only ones who will need the 4. 10s are those with dump trucks that haul local slower roads in the hills, or someone who has the intent of putting on 40" tires.

Just my opinion which has gotten me in trouble once or twice (each day).

I am in kind of the same boat. I went from an 02 2500 HO 6spd quad cab long bed to a 03 3500 DRW HO 6spd four door long bed.

WOW what a difference, drives better, more power, a lot more room in the back seat (for my kid). I say go for it.
