I have a 2002 H. O. 6-speed that I bought new in September of last year. I was thinking of buying a 2003 but had not driven one yet. I drove a new '03 automatic 4x4 non/H. O. at the Dodge dealer today. Even though it had less power than my '02 it seemed quite a bit quicker because of the automatic. One thing that seemed peculiar to me is that the engine was a lot quieter on the outside but seemed just as noisey inside as my '02... maybe even louder. Did Mercedes
cut back on the insulation in the cab on the newer models thus causing the new cummins to have the same amount of interior noise as the old stlye cummins? I looked at the '03 with a totally open mind but couldn't see anything to really cause me to make the leap. The '03 just didn't seem as "truckey" as my '02. You know what else? I like the fact that my cummins makes so much darn noise that it can scare cats and small children. There's a lot of things I like better on my truck. Just to be fair though, I liked a few things better on the '03. That secret little hiding place under the middle seat/console... It handles better... and even though I didn't do any emergency stops, I think the brakes were better too.
I guess I shouldn't be too hard on our 2003 brethren. I will probably end up with a third generation eventually. Maybe I'll just wait for the fourth generation Dodge cummins. My truck can easily make it until then.
