2002 Washougal Hangover Scrambles

This is going to be a good one (and a giant spodefest to boot). There are going to be Performance and Utility atv classes along with 250/Open Expert, and Ameteur Clases. I have not decided if I want to race Performance, or Utility, depends on how nasty the conditions are. If it is snowing, I just might race the Performance class and have fun spanking the Raptor/Banshee crowd. I raced in the 2000 Scrambles (placed 21st out of over 250 racers in the 250 Amateur class on my KDX) and it was a mudfest, it may be ever better this year; for the mud I mean.

no, most of my buddes are on the Wet Dirt list. This is when I lived up in the seattle area... most of them road race in the summer and ride dirt in the winter.

Spode: The opposite of a sandbagger. A rider trying to ride too fast in a class that is too fast for him. The Spode typically can be identified by his reckless antics and spectacular crashes while trying to keep up with riders much faster than him.



Spodes make for great traction when it gets muddy!



Spud: a potato, also useful for traction

a spodefest is a get together of these crazy people. a spudfest is when they get together in idaho.

DNF'd, Mud in Radiator

UGH... what a slopfest. I was running in the top 10 when the race was stopped for a restart... . this is after I had completed one of the five mile loops. I DNF'd after my throttle started to stick and radiator was clogged from all the mud. This was one nasty brutal course. There was a minimum of 6" of mud over the entire course, and at a few places it approached a foot deep. 50% of the field DNF'd. The really satisfying part of the race is that when the mud realy gets bad... . my SC500 walked away from the 250R's, DS650's, Banshee's and Raptors.

Next year, I will have my bike prepped for battle (lots of foam to keep the mud out of the vital areas)
