FWIW, the NV-5600 was introduced in very limited quanities in 2000 (I think) with the smaller input shaft and the SO engnine. It went into wide scale production in 2001. 5 with the 245 HP HO engine.

So, am I right in thinking that if a 03 or 04 has a 6 speed it would also have the high output engine and that only the SO engines could come with a 5 speed ? also, the same would hold true with the automatics 48re= HO and 47re= SO ?

Oh yeah, and what about this Knob thing for engaging the 4x4 ? does it work ok? was it some kind of option ? What year trucks does it come on ? One other change is the addition of head restraints for the back seat ~ may have been an 4. 5 thing.

My early '04 has back seat headrests.

It was actually introduced in '99... I had one on a new ordered truck. I've been told that only 1200 of them were delivered in '99. Anyways, I liked it enough to order it again. Incidentally, my truck was an HO

My memory might be going but when I bought my 2001 it came with the NV4500. I found out later that if I had gotten the HO model it would have come with the NV5600 six speed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

The 03's have different steering wheels too

and 1 more dash air vent on pass side. .

yes ,you have it right,,,H. O's ,,either 6speeds or 48RE's and S. O. 's are5 speeds or 47 RE's
