2003-2004 vs 2004.5-2007 turbo

I notice that there are several 2004. 5 to 2007 used turbos for sale for around $400. 00. I know that I would have to plug the sensor hole for the boost sensor. The 2003-2004 turbos are only good for around 32 # boost and the later models are good for 40#. Any issues with using the later model on my 2004?

I don't think it would be a problem to use a newer model turbo on the '04.

I thought the late model turbos simply use a different wastegate, and the 2004 turbo is capable of higher than 32 lb. Am I wrong about that? 2003-2004 trucks use an HY-35, what's the model number for 2004. 5-up?

04. 5 has larger compressor wheel. It will interchange.

The main difference is the 03-04 have a 58mm compressor wheel and 04. 5 and up have a 60mm compressor wheel. So the 04. 5 and up move a little more air. I think the housings and waste gate is the same on all HY-35. The cast elbo from the turbo to down pipe on 03 and 04 is 4in. at the turbo and 3. 5in. at the down pipe, but 04. 5 and up are full 4in.
