One of the metal/rubber transmission lines to the cooler on the engine is leaking on our 03. It looks like the plastic thing that spaces the two lines apart failed and kinked the lower line where it changes to rubber. So, the crimp fitting was pulled apart some and the metal line is leaking at the connector, it looks like its slipping out.

Is this a dealer only item? Tried Rock Auto and Napa, no lines listed. Just generic tanny coolers. I'm tempted to cut out the crimp conectors and add a replacement hose in there. Not sure how to put the rubber back on were it will not blow off under pressure though?

After searching on here I don't see a thread on these exact lines. Some say to replace it with hydraulic line? I don't need much down time so I guess I'm stuck with the dealer for a parts source?

SSage, Look at on line ordering from Mopar parts at Mopar Parts ~ OEM Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, Plymouth Parts or Mopar Parts Catalog. look under the cooling system and transmission for lower hose and return lines. The lower looks like about $70 and the return at about $40. They do not list any part #s so you may have to look at the line that is leaking, since dodge seems to be pretty good at marking the part numbers on everything.

That link is perfect, I think its #1 and $37. 99. It comes off the front drivers side just above the transmission pan up to the cooler on the engine. At that price I'll order one. I'm thinking the #1 clip is what I need to keep the lines positioned right, its hard to tell by the illustration.

Thanks!

It looks right to me... :) Looks like it has been leaking for a while too. I'll find out soon. Once that is cleaned up it should be pretty dry under there. Not bad for an 03. The only other things replaced were the water pump under warranty a couple years ago and one injector line out of warranty a year ago.

On a side note, the 48RE at 98,000 miles looked great inside the pan. The upshift was sloppy, a band adjustment got it back to normal. I think this is the third ATF change. The stock 48RE is holding up well though, it has not towed a whole lot. I few 10 to 15K pulls over the years. Sold the 40' 5th wheel, mainly tow our small Kubota L4330 loader bush hog combo on a dove tail flat deck 7 ton trailer. But, the 95 gets most of the heavy loads since the DTT 47RH was installed with the goodies.

The 2003 305 hp has been a good truck with lots of slow and hot running around dirt roads. That 48RE has help up better than the 47RH in the 95, it lasted 67K and died towing my 43' toy hauler. But its was pulling 18K at the time... :)
