Honestly, *I* would NOT be impressed with THAT service mileage at all, UNLESS it was mostly VERY hard usage out at the ragged edges of ratings!

MORE to the point, that is EXACTLY why I continue my search for as superior a lube for transmission and differential as possible, I fully expect both transmission and differential to last as long as the Cummins does, with consciencious use of good lubes and regular service intervals! True, LS clutches might be a problem due to their normal function, but the gears and bearings SHOULD be good for considerably longer than quoted above...

Gary, I'd be surprised if the gears or bearings will give you trouble with care and good maintenance. The Synchro rings are likely brass or similar material. The sychro rings seem to be an area where wear is apt to show up. Getting 250K out of your synchro's would be pretty good. Again, the right lube will help as will not rushing the shift and allowing the synchro rings to do thier job.

Well, all I have to say is, I used the Amsoil 5w30 in my 00 6spd. for over 167K mi. and had no problems. I was pulling heavy for most of those miles. When my 03 is ready to change, thats what will go in it. We all have a choice, no one is telling us what to use.

I also spent a few nights in a Wal-Mart parking lot!!;) :)

Larry, nothing like someone with some miles behind their experience. At how many miles did you change out the OEM lube? What change interval did you use with the Amsoil 5w30? Did you notice a difference with the Amsoil 5w30? Sorry for all of the questions but you have the most miles of anyone who has responded to these 6speed lube questions.

Thanks

PS It was nice meeting you in person at the KC Dyno event.

I have never heard of Redline oil. Is it a regional brand?

Somewhere I read (could not find the post) that Pennzoil has an oil that meets the specifications for the NV5600. Does anyone know the numbers on it and where they bought it?

Thanks,

Blake

Is this another oil war, should I pop in?

:-{} As I stated in another thread, the moment I switched to AMSOIL 5W30 I noticed a great improvement in the noise level (the big mamma became silent!) and fuel consumption (10%). My feeling is that shifting is easier at normal temp but a bit harder at very low temp (below -20C/-5F).

It doesn't feel like i'm dragging a sleigh behind my truck anymore. Thanks God! I'm eager to see how it will behave this summer, but from what I have read from the "southerners" the NV should shift "soft as silk".

Wayne & Larry, I support you 100% US (that's 130% CDN). Dan

Damn it, we're in the wrong forum!!!

My six speed is getting a fresh load of Pennzoil as soon as she comes out of storage and before I head south. And the rear is getting a load of Redline 75W140NS.

Gary, can I get Crisco in GL5?
